Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday, 24th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone.

I have just been reading Frugal Queen's blog entry from yesterday - Somebody's Daughter. Very sobering. Thoughts and prayers for Amy and her family. Also for the distraught families in Norway. How very sad and what a waste.

The day here has dawned bright and beautiful. Am just downing a cuppa and about to jump in the shower and get ready for church. Actually it is more a careful step into the shower than a jump:)

Dinner today will be antipasto, salad, roast chicken with roasted vegetables and boiled hg potatoes. I have not put an antipasto course on the table before, but I thought I would take advantage of the visit of my beautiful DIL to glean some knowledge of Italian cuisine.

Will get the WM ready to go on when we get back from church. Forecast is good so hope to get everything out on the line to dry. I've been lucky this week as we've dodged the showers, especially as they've been torrents rather than drizzles!

I wish you all a happy Sunday with whatever you are doing. Hugs to those in need of them especially those finding the world "dark and confusing".
Take care all, cheers, Silver x

Good Morning Silvermaid and all who follow x

Yes I also read Frugal Queen's blog
    http://frugalincornwall.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
and agree that "By the Grace of God go I......" as regards my eldest son. I think Frugal Queen sums up very eloquently what every mother fears the most and then the daily worry that comes with that fear. This in no way detracts from the atrocity that happened in Norway and my thoughts are with all those who are suffering x

Anyway its a bright and beautiful day. This morning I have to motivate my kids to do some housework, get some food shopping organised and then as a reward go to the garden centre this afternoon.

Redruby - hugs to your DD. My older kids didn't manage to get a job until they were 17 plus so keep on trying. She will be successful
Taplady - Happy belated birthday. x

Have a good day - OS or not xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Bright & sunny here, but I don't think it will last so I'm getting my washing on the line asap.
I foraged a kilo of wild plums yesterday, today I will turn them into something, jam or crumble, not sure which yet.
I have a list of things I want to get done over the holidays, Mondays plan was to top up the bark on my front flowerbed, but DD is working overnight tonight, so I'm going to her's at 7am tomorrow, I shall help with the school run, give her hubby a lift to work & then have her 2 DD's who are 8 months & 3 years old for the day so she can get some sleep.
C'mon Reverbe, take Pink's challenge, one positive post, we're all behind you offering support. I started again at 50 when I got divorced, it took nearly 3 years to get any money from my ex & by that time I was on my feet emotionally & financially. I sent you a pm a while ago & my offer still stands.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning Ladies

Hello to everyone yet to come in :) I was up with the larks this morning, and am at work  - I did a shift swap with someone for a couple of weekdays off, to be with the boys during the holidays. OH is snoring happily in bed :) I kept my neighbour's son for her last night as she was at a family do, and the kids were up til gone 11pm, so I doubt he will see them before 10 ;)

Redruby, so sorry to hear DD didn't get the job, I was lucky and worked from the age of 15, but that's because my parents knew people through their own business, such a shame for young people who are trying to get on - what about looking at the mystery shopping threads, maybe she could give something like that a try? It would look good on her CV too, that she showed some sort of initiative, and then there's all the report writing etc.

Molly glad you and Mooloo had a lovely time at Ragdale. x

Plan for the day? Well, I finish at 3pm, so the plan is to go and take some stuff back to Debenhams that was too small for OH, then go home and relax in the garden and top up my "tan" I was sitting out yesterday morning, and now have what looks like a brown lipline allround my lips, making them looked bigger  Who needs collagen :rotfl:

Hope you all have a good day, stay safe and well. I am off to read Frugal Queen's post now - thanks for the link Molly.

    Jackie XXX

EDIT - just read it, beautifully put, FrugalQueen, and my sentiments exactly.

I'm a little achey today, but not as bad as I thought I would be. Just tired, had a broken sleep and then was wide awake at 7am. Going to take it easy today. Looking forward to watching the F1 later.

OS wise - WM on, may do 2nd load if weather seems ok, eating out of cupboard and freezer for day, more packing.

    Have a good Sunday all

RIP Amy Winehouse, so sad, have been a fan of hers since she started.

TAPLADY happy birthday for yesterday, glad to hear you had a good day.

Hugs to anyone who needs one on this sad day in the news.

Glad to say I now have water and my loo has stopped flooding the place. My lovely neighbour popped in and has temporarily sorted it all out. He's going to buy me a new cistern on Monday and fit it for me. I am so lucky to live where I do, it might not be the poshest of areas but people here have a real sense of community that's sadly missing in other places.

Up early to go to early class at the gym. Not sure what's for dinner yet. Ds is at his Dad's, not sure if he's coming back today or tomorrow, will give him a ring in a bit. If he's here we'll have meatballs if not I'll cobble something veggie together. Need to give the house a good clean and make some cakes. All the washing is on the line and hopefully it will dry. Shall carry on de-cluttering my bedroom today.

    Have a good day all

    morning all

just popped in to say to say to reverbe that i avoid looking up old school friends because of that reason. i know it upsets me seeing them going on about how perfect and wonderful their lives are (which they are probably not anyway!!) and i am stuck in all this doom and gloom.

as for your past... it doesnt matter. my past is what has made me who i am today. i hate it and wish i could change it but if it hadnt of happened then i wouldnt be me. without it, i certainly wouldnt have my hubby and without him i wouldnt have my ds. the best thing about the past is that it can help you look to the future and see what you sure as hell dont want to happen.

Morning everyone - dull but light here.

Today will be filled with making lists and then packing. Then I may have to rage through the house putting things away, hoovering, doing a wash and then relaxing at the end of it.

Harvested some strawberries, garden peas, little round sweet carrots and three new potatoes from the garden I am watering for friends. As we have no garden I am enjoying the watering and harvesting aspects of my temporary role though I'm not sure I'd relish as much the planting, weeding and grass cuttings ones. :rotfl:

Yesterday I returned yet another load of clothes to M&S and sent back three items bought online. I realised that I don't need anything new for my trip and just have to plan a little better! Seeing as how I don't yet know the itinerary for my business trip, apart from get on the plane, get off the plane and someone will meet you at the destination, it's going to be interesting at the very least.

Made loads of stuff for the freezer so that OH can eat his way through it if he wants. I'll probably come home to find most of it still there, but as long as he's spending his money and keeps the place tidy I will not worry. Have decided to stop worrying over things I can't change or influence and keep on worrying about things I can.

I have sat at the PC browsing since early o'clock and will now make a move - whether it's in the direction of the shower or the bed will decided in a few moments time. :j

Good vibrations, as usual, to everyone.
