ok the imei on the box and where the sim card goes match, we cant check the phone it self as the battery has just gone dead, however she said there is no branding on the load up so looks like it has been flashed0

I would suggest the contact pins on the phone connector have been damaged, probably due to the shop attempting to insert the cable upside down (easy done)No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20

how would you go about repairing this. If it is a software problem would it just need reflashing?0
-
If it is a software problem then a reflash may fix it but if the shop flashed it in the first place then they should do it again for free.
If it was the cable being put in the wrong way to unlock it (doubtful as they are clearly marked and it would have had to be done with a lot of force .. but still possible I guess) then they should repair it for free. Proving either is nigh on impossible though.
If they did damage the pins when inserting the cable the first time it is highly unlikely that it can be flashed again anyway.0 -

JUST MAKE SURE THEY FLASH THE T-MOBILE FIRMWARE!
This will mean your warranty is intact!0 -
I don’t think the pins are damaged they looked and said they were ok, plus when I connect it to the computer it knows when I plug it in so some sort of signal is going through there. So if I get it flashed with t-mobile firmware then no one will be the wiser, humm idea0

You can flash the firmware yourself, buy a cable from ebay.
OR ask the shop to reflash it with the original firmware or they will have to repair it!
AND DON'T PAY THEM ANY MORE MONEY THE THEIVING GITS!:mad:0 -

i would also say that the pins on connector maybe damage or maybe even where the connector is soldered to the pcb, ive seen similar problems on d5000
