    Ummmmm.

    RX Data Rate 7616 kbs
    Tx Data Rate 448 kbs

This means you are receiving data at a rate of 7.616 mbps (Mega bits per second)
You are uploading at a speed of 448 kbps (Kilobits per second).

which is not bad at all.
Did the stats include a figure for line Attenuation and Noise margin.

Th 105 modem is however very old fashioned and you might do better throwing it away and replacing it with a router.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

It means you're currently connected at barely 1Meg. Do you live out of town , a long distance from your exchange?

How can you tell that there are connected at 'barely 1MB' from those figures?

I haven't seen a USB modem in years.

    Sorry.
    Misread it.
Not helped by the fact I get 16,000 Rx and 1500 Tx.

I'm in Luton - close to town centre, not 1/2mile from exchange - although I guess that doesn't always mean anything!

Not sure how to check for noise &aAttenuation.

    Will look again tomorrow.

    Thanks again!

    Watch your usage:
    MB = Mega Bytes
Meg is used to mean Mb = Mega Bits (1Mb = 1/8MB)

The line IS connected at almost exactly 1MB, but this equates to a pretty typical (for 2-3 years ago) 8Mb connection - remember when 8Meg broadband was advertised everywhere, just like 20Meg is now.
USB is back from the days of 1Mb and slower.

I looked at the figures and saw the total 8000kbps, but misinterpreted it in haste.

Huh? :) Now I'm even more confused. So you are saying that everyone on 20Mbps is really only on 2.5MBps? ;)

Anyway, the OP is on ADSL 1. Perhaps they can download a couple of test files in order to check their current throughput.

Also if they have such a modem, perhaps we should enquire as to the equipment used for watching YouTube videos.

    Make and model of PC/laptop?

    Precisely.
When companies advertise 20M or 20Meg they are referring to 20Mega Bits. There are 8 bits to every byte, so 8 Mega bits (Mb) to every Mega Byte (MB). so an 8Mb connection will get an overall connection (Rx+Tx) of 1MB per second.
The figures quoted above refer to the kilo bits per second; i.e. 7,600kb/s, which is 7.6Mb (Mega bits) or just less than 1MB. Plus the 400kb/s Tx makes 8000kb/s or 8Mb/s or 1MB/s total line speed.
My connection sits around 16,000kb/s Rx and 1800kb/s Tx, so my total line speed is just under 18,000kb/s = 18Mb/s = around 2MB/s. I get consistent download speeds of 1.5MB/s.

The line is delivering the maximum it can on interleaved ADSL (standard for up to 8Mbps packages). You may get a lot less than the 7Mbps download which the connection can currently support though as that depends a lot on how much capacity the ISP has bought from BT and at prices like you are paying that probably won't be much.

Swap to O2 and you'll get a free router and faster speeds which should help with YouTube etc. What you won't get is internet + free calls for £6.99. In fact I doubt you'd get internet + free calls anywhere else for £6.99

If you want better O2 will doubtless provide it but it will cost more. Do not take the O2 Access (non-LLU) product though as that will just cost more.

In all likelihood you'll speed up just by uninstalling all AOL software. Although this might not be an option unless what you have is a router.

    Hi Again!

I've tried to work out on the online AOL help just what I've got!

Not too much luck though! Can't really see it without calling, but did clik a 'free of cost' upgrade to 'Up to 24Mbps Speed'.

So not sure what that does, but will be added within 48hours!

    Thanks Again
