ungrateful rels wanting receipts for present returns

  • How rude and ungrateful!

We buy for several littlies and always spend a lot of time thinking about what they would like, what is age appropriate etc and all bar one of their parents is always very, very appreciative. The one set of parents that aren't insist on giving us money (knowing full well we've already bought their two kids a present) asking us to put it in an envelope for the kids 'in case they want to buy something else'. It makes my blood boil but OH insists on getting them something regardless of their parents illmannered technique.

Back OT, personally I think I'd not buy for them anymore or at the very least buy them something very cheap.
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

Just to really make a point buy vouchers for kiddies shops ...Mothercare,ELC,Toys R Us etc etc ...so it has to be spent on something for the kids, you HAVE put some effort in by actually GETTING the vouchers and the best of all SIL has the pleasure of traipsing around a toy store with a tenner voucher and having to persuade the kids they do NOT want that £49.99 lego set and that "magic" voucher doesn't cover the cost:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: THAT'LL teach the ungrateful mare:p :rotfl:

  • i'm with Hay on this one having suffered similarly with relatives i get the vouchers for kids shops only then at least they go to where they are intended (hopefully)
i'm living in a parallel universe
  • Next year make them up a christmas stocking each filled with cheapies from the pound shop etc and lots of unsuitable sweeties and noise making things.

When she whinges bat your eyes and say ' Oh as you didn't like last years presents we thought we'd do them a stocking instead. MUCH more fun'( ignoring her plainly unimpressed children): Then smile brightly and drift away....

I would get them something really messy to play with. Like a finger painting set or sand art. The messiest thing you can find. Hopefully the kids will want to play with it straight away and make lots of mess! Most kids love to get messy and would not want to exchange the gift. (maybe im just being mean on the mum?)

I know, get that god awful floam stuff which is now 1/2 price in tesco. Somone who I have obviously really p*ssed off this year got my DD some, yes the autistic one who has no common sense what-so ever, bless. This stuff is not only really nasty gooey sticky slimey stuff, and makes a right mess, it's also designed to be creatively stuck all over things to cover them in 'beautiful' patterns, like my toaster, windows, toilet seat, serving spoon, DDs brand new trousers and boots and dining room walls. It dries rock solid and takes chunks out of your masionery if you try to remove it. Sounds like the idea gift to me and a snip at £2.49 a tub, you could get the whole rainbow of colours for the little darlings.

    I'm going to get some!

  • Easy enough solution. If anybody doesn't like the presents you've bought just tell them you do all your shopping in the January sales so even if you did still have the receipts you wouldn't be able to return them.

I'm sure I'll get some stick for this but I actually don't see what the problem is.

If I got something from a relative (depending how close I was to that relative) then I would do the same. If you're not close then fair enough but wouldn't you prefer she exchanged the gift for something she wanted knowing that she will have pleasure from the gift rather than keeping something she loathes that will never get used? My wife and I have a vow that if we don't like something then we tell each other so that it doesn't end up being a waste of money.
