ungrateful rels wanting receipts for present returns

My sil has asked for the receipt for the presents I got her kids as she wants to take them back! I never got a thank you and feel like I've been slapped in the face, they were nice presents and I spent time thinking what they would like. I wouldn't dream of doing this to someone with my kids, manners seem to go out of the window at this time and some people lose the true meaning of Christmas.
I don't feel like buying them anything now but wondered if anyone has any ideas for 'non returnable' presents? I thought of earrings as they can't be taken back can they? I have tried lots of different things in the past, book tokens, money, asking them but everything seems to be treated with contempt, what is wrong with people?

could you tell a white lie and say you no longer have the receipts?'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

I think your sil has a hard neck! Some people are never grateful.0

I think I'd have had a 'getting ready for New Year' tidy of my purse/handbag, and would have binned all the receipts from my Christmas shopping.0

What sort of things were they that you bought the kids?
I think its pretty cheeky - but if you paid by credit/debit card the most she could expect is an exchange so its very doubtful she would get her money back.
I would also feel put out and upset that they were going to change them - unless that is that they were faulty!
When I was younger I always (had to) say what a lovely present and keep the present whether I liked it or not - in the end someone has put thought and time into buying a present!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
I have a boyfriend like that. He has asked me to return most of his presents. So ungrateful!0

I cant believe the cheek of her at all, even if the kids didnt like the gifts I would never let the buyer of the gifts know. I personally would say I no longer had the receipts and suggest she donate them to the local childrens unit at the hospital or to a charity, as well as a sly comment about some children not knowing what christmas is
Dont worry yourself at all though, next year put some money into their trust funds, I ask my family to do this and they really appreciate it too

I honestly wouldn't dream of asking for a receipt because I didn't like the present -very rude and so ungrateful!
I would hate someone to think I was so unappreciative of the time and effort they took to get the present in the first place. The only exception is for clothes but I rarely give/get clothes so haven't had to face that yet thankfully.
I would say you have lost the receipts and let them keep the presents. Next year give them something small and cheap
Wife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

That is so out of order! How rude is she!
I would be very tempted to next Christmas buy them something like a goat / herd of cattle / mosquito net from world vision; then at least you know that your gift is appreciated and that your time and money have not been in vain.
I'm sure, however, that a lot of people you spent time thinking about were greatly appreciative of the presents you gave them. That's Numberwang!0 -
That is terrible! Next year get them a sponsoring gift from Oxfam - funding a loo or the upkeep of a goat - whatever you can find to match her attitude.0
