Hi there I work for provident as a clerk and we deal with these all the time, at the risk of sounding like im promoting them, it genuinely is a good idea (wish theyd buy my debt lol) they give u a discount so u dont actually pay the full amount of what you owe and the weekly is generally a great deal less than the normal payments.

It is an interest free loan but it is on a debt you already have and i would imagine would be paying anyway, unfortunately as a menber of staff im not eligible :(

xx[/QUOTE You make it sound as if Provident are now a caring charitable philanthropic company , when in fact they are uncaring devious moneylenders , they care about squeezing as much money as they can from the financially illiterate , they have formed links with DCA s , who have thousands of statute barred debts on their books and little chance of collecting on them , so why not let the friendly Provident agent talk them into paying up on debts that can not be enforced through the courts .

I'm sorry if you read my post as such - I was purely commenting on what I know from being a clerk there - I know that they are still a business and of course they want to make money - would most businesses do things to just be nice?
As I mentioned before, I don't know anything about statute barred debts so amn't qualified in the slightest to speak about them, I just wanted to comment. :o

I do know about statute barred debts , i also know about the vile disgusting methods used by DCA, s to try and collect as much money as they can on debts they have purchased for next to nothing , when they fail , they are then aided and abetted by Provident , i also find this disgusting .

  • Neverlearn do NOT acknowledge these debts in any way, if they are statute barred you can not be made to pay, nor will they show on your credit file- write them off. There are very few regulations that act to protect us financial consumers, make the most of this one- I can guarantee that if the law came down on the side of your debtors they would not be letting you off because of moral or ethical sensibilities.

Concentrate your efforts on paying your current debts and steer well clear of Provident.

How can it possibly be a good idea for a person with problem debts to voluntarily take on MORE debt that is actually legally unenforcable? Thus rendering them even less able to tackle their current financial situation, and therefore more likely to seek further credit?

Did the provident agent inform the OP that the debt was unenforceable? No. Provident is taking advantage of people's financial ignorance to trap them further in a spiral of ludicrously expensive debt.

Hiya, just updating everyone on my thoughts

Although, these are my debts, which i have run up. I have defiantly decided not to take provident up on there offer.

I am going to let her go through all her sales stuff then. when its my turn to answer I will say.

Are you aware these debts are statue barred and therefore unenforceable, which is why the previous DCA have allowed provident to buy them, as they know they cannot enforce them. If they could have they would have.

If she gives me any bother. I am just going to say.

Will you please leave and do not return. i will contact Provident to arrange a different agent or make arrangement to pay by another method.

    Does that sound OK ?

That sounds good to me , the way i look at it , these debts are gone forever , the banks or credit companies have been paid out by insurance , they have then sold them on , getting two payouts , some scumbag DCA has bought them for next to nothing , hoping to make a killing , they failed , so now in cahoots with Provident they are trying the back door aproach , if you fell for the sneaky underhand tactic , you would be making Provident and some rotten debt collector richer . :j:beer::T:rotfl:but you are not that silly are you .:D well done mate .

    Hiya,

Well she arrived and went through all the bumf basics was

Provident will give me a interest free loan and deducted roughly £20 of each debt. Three loans as she put it were "only" going to come to an extra £20 a week........£80 month.

When she was finished I said.

Me Who gave provident permission to search my credit history ?

Provident you gave us permission when you signed for your loan

me yes my current loans with provident, that i understand. I did not give you permission to go looking in to my financial past, to see what you can find, when you feel fit to do it.

    provident I think we can

me, OK can you please bring me the next time you can the relevant paper work that i have signed ? to allow you to do that.

Me Are provident aware these debts are statute barred

    Provident what is statue barred.

    Me, I explained ?

Provident I don't know anything about that.

Me Well I suggest you forward that information on to your superiors.

Me I have informed you that my DH will be out of work from the 30th of July. How do you think i am going to pay for these loans ?

    Provident these are your debts

Me I think you will find that it against the law to advise people to get into more debt, even more so when they have told you, there income is to be halved very soon

Me I do not wish to take you up on your offer. Please do not ask me again. If you or anyone employed by Provident continue to harass me over this subject, you will leave me no option but to ask for you to stop coming and find alternative collector or way of making my payment and also seek legal advice

Provident Well I will have to pass this information back to my boss and see what he says.

me I don't really care what your boss says. I cannot be forced by anyone, even the court to pay these debts. Why do you think the DCA that provident have bought these debts from have sold them on to you, for a lot less than you are charging me, i bet. the reason is, they know they cannot take me to court for them, so they decided to get what they could out of you's and let you try. If they could have got money out of me through a court, they would have done it.

At this point she stood up and said "this is not me doing this, I hope we are OK " ?

My reply was, you are provident Representative and you have come to my home. To be hones t I feel like do not what you back in my home again.

At which point she said OK and left,

  • Well done :money:

Hopefully they will leave you alone now!

I think they bought them for 10p in the pound, and as you say thats the way they they claim its 0%. Someone I work with is a rep for them, thats how I know

I would doubt Provident or any other company would pay 10p in the £ for debts like these. Maybe 1p in the £, or 500 debts for a £, but not much more. These are mostly debts that others have failed to collect on and have given up on. Most are probably statute barred as well, and it's just a last chance fling in the hope that one or two people contacted will panic and pay up.
