I've been shopping today for DHs 40th bday present. Hes got his eye on a £995 Tag.

I was really surpried at the responses I got as I thought that the prices on these things would be pretty fixed. Anyway, my results were:

Goldsmiths-offered me £70 off after 30 seconds, for Maestro or Visa. Didnt want cash as he had to take it to the bank!
    Ernest Jones-offered me 10% discount
    Beaverbrooks-offered me 10%

All of these discounts were readily offered, and I think could be improved upon with further negotiations. I was just dipping my toe in the water today, ready for some serious stuff in a couple of weeks.

I found it definitley helped carrying a copy of thier catalogue and price list, as it let the sales staff know I was serious.

    Good luck!

PS tThere were still some good reductions on Tags, tried to interest DH in a £1400 watch reduced to £700 but he was having none of it!

Thanks for the info. I'll hopefully be treating myself to a Tag in the next few months, and it's good to know that it might be worth going to a proper jewelers and getting a discount rather than attempting to dodge customs or travelling to Jersey etc.

Well, I took the plunge yesterday and bought DHs 40th birthday pressie.

I rang around most Goldsmiths in the area (numbers are easily found on their website) and expalined that I was going to be buying today, what is their best price.

Best discount anyone could offer was 11%, so got it for £885, all beautifully gift wrapped as well!

Decided that 11% cash off was better than 12% possible cash back from Quidco.

Really pleased with my purchase and astonished to get a discount like this!

Its an aquaracer chronograph, a new model, silver face, blue dials

    DH is thrilled!

And I got a lovely hard back catalogue with some delicious pictures of Brad Pitt, who is one of their style icon models! DH is drooling over Uma Thurman too!

  • Sounds fab! I like that watch! I like the whole range, which can be seen here: http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/products_new.asp?subname=Aquaracer%20Chronograph&gsubcat=469&sex=0&type=5

I particularly like these 2 and want to see where I can get 1 of these 2 cheapest:

    http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productid=2698 and http://www.blitzwatches.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productid=2697

Not sure which I prefer! ;) :D:confused:
  • 11% You should have pushed harder, I got 22% off at Goldsmiths, at the time I walked into Beaverbrooks and said how much discount will you give me and they told me 17.5% without much arguing.

    Good buy regardless
2p off is still 2p off!

Well after reading this thread & my husband asking for a nice watch for his birthday , we went to goldsmiths found a watch asked for a discount !!!! they said that the price was not up for discussion !!!! wah
  • When I decided on the one wanted, I just rang all the local branches up, said I was going to buy it today and what was their best price.

Dont be put off-have another try!
