Installing sky with a phone line that we're not going to use?

Moving into a new house on Friday and have arranged sky to come out Saturday to re install us.
They say they need a working landline, which there is one in the property, BUT we're not going to use it.
We're with virgin (cable) and will have this installed asap, but virgin can't come for weeks.
Now we can (just) manage without a landline or internet for a few weeks, but I really don't want to have to wait for sky to be installed!
Can we get sky to install with the BT line that's already there even though we're never going to use it? Lol.
Do we even need to mention this bit to sky?

As long as your Sky install is not for multiroom you'll be ok. He may not even bother about it but if he does you can remove it in a few days and Sky won't bother.0

If you do not have a contract with BT and pay line rental then you do not have a working land line.0

You would get a better deal by either using Sky or Virgin for all your services, why would you want both? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I prefer virgin cable for Internet but hate virgin tv. Always been with sky and prefer them. Plus they've offered us free HD and multi room for 12 months

We are multi room, but do you think we can ask the current owner (who no longer lives there as moved into a home) if they can keep the phone going and well pay the first quarter?Green and White Barmy Army!0 -

Possibly..however if the phone isn't working when the install is done, then the dish monkey will have no option but to cancel the job & reschedule.0 -
Will give the vendors a call and ask (if they havent already done it) not to tell BT their moving and we'll pay the bill for the first quatre. That way he line will be working for sky but we just won't use it for calls

If you're having multiroom then they send signals down to check that each Sky box is plugged in, during your contract. If they can't connect to each Sky box you get a letter off them telling you to plug the box in and do a call back and if you don't do it you'll get charged full price for each box. That's usually so you can't give your mate a Sky box and they get full Sky for a tenner a month.
They also need the phone line to activate it i think.
Once you're out of contract they stop bothering with the call backs0 -

They would have to be absolutely crazy to agree to that, and the vendors solicitor would be negligent in his work if he allowed it to go ahead.0 -

Actually,no they don't.I know people that have had letters quite a few years down the line for not connecting the phone to the Sky boxes, happened to me after I had Multi Room for 3 years, was a faulty modem in the box that was the cause.Thankfully I worked for Sky at the time & had a couple of old Sky boxes to hand.0 -

Seems a bit daft though.
You give your mr to a mate down the road, Sky sends you a letter, oi, plug it in, you get it back from your mate for a while, Sky test call, everythings okay, yo give it back to your mate again.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
