Welcome
No such thing as a daft question here
Rubber chicken is basically a whole chicken that bounces back to the table in various guises over a few days/a week!
ie sunday roast

sandwiches

As others have said, it's stretching a chicken to make multiple meals. Here's the big thread about it: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3375668
I use the same philosophy on all joints of meat. My last beef joint did three meals, plus sandwiches for nearly a week.0 -
Ok!!! Got it now. Thanks x0

Hi Ruth,
Welcome!Rubber chicken is a term that Old Stylers use to describe stretching a chicken to make as many meals as possible. This thread has lots of ideas, I'll add your thread to it later.

Thats the word I was looking for!!! Str-e-e-e-e-e-tchy chicken! Not bouncy chicken! :rotfl:
Altho it could be either!0 -
Yes. As above. There is no such thing as a silly question. I can't guarantee the same for any answers, though.
Anyway, for example, I currently have a price reduced ASDA SmartPrice chicken in my freezer. I should get no less than 10 meals from this. 2 roast dinners with the legs. 4 portions of chicken curry and/or chicken & sweetcorn soup with the breasts. Then 4 x 250ml portions of soup from the carcass and wings. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
A rubber chicken is the end result I get when my GF cooks.....0

We are having rubber chicken this week.
I bunged a whole chicken in the slow cooker (SC) ground salt and pepper over it, then covered it in dried coriander leaves and put 6 or so crushed garlic cloves on it. Went on high for and hour or so and then down to low, was in the SC for around 6 hours. Served it with boiled potaoes, tossed in butter with a grinding of salt and papper, carrots and french beans and gravy made from the juice and the carrot water.
Next meal will be a chicken and leek pie, with the rest of the gravy as the liquid.
Then I will either do a curry or a rissotto with what is left.
The carcass will be bunged in the freezer and when I have a couple I will do a soup.
The chicken was a 3kg one that was reduced to £2, managed to grab two in the scrum. We are a family of five so it is a very cheap meal. I find putting any meat in the SC means that you get more off it.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hey all!
We are about to go through two very lean months due to nursery expenses, can anyone suggest how to stretch a chicken over three or four meals? (Preferably but not necessarily toddler friendly) and is it more worthwhile buying a full chicken or thighs etc?
