WOW £30 a week  . I used to get £15 from my parents a MONTH and at 15 had a one day a week paper round that earned me £10 a week. Out of that I had to pay for most of my clothes and any entertainment e.g cinema, DVDs, CD's etc. I think you are giving her more than enough. I was getting just over £53 to do that a month. She has £130 which is what I now give my parents for keep a month so it should be enough for her easily with change! I was 15 only 4 years ago by the way. I know inflation has not been enough to mean that £130 won't cover what you are asking her.
If she keeps saying it's not enough/fair I'd be inclined to stop giving it to her as she is obviously taking the mick and maybe without it she will realise that you are giving her a substantial amount.
How else will she learn that you have to budget in life? I'd say she should be buying more with the money to teach her just that. Budgeting is a good skill to have especially due to what is happening.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
That sounds like loads! Why can't she get a paper round or washing up in a pub or something?
I had a paper round from age 13, then got a shop job from 15. Have never had less than 2 jobs on the go all through 6th form and 6 years at uni. (sometimes 4-5 jobs!). Only now I am in full time, well paid employment have I ditched the part time jobs. I think it was because I learnt at an early age that I had to earn my own money. My Mum actually said at one point during my A levels that I could give up my job and she would give me £20 a week instead, but I said no, cos I liked earning my own money.0 -
I had a Saturday job from the age of 11. When I turned 12, I used to work from 5-8 every Thursday too.
When I was 13, I worked through every half term and summer holiday, until I left school.
I don't remember getting pocket money from my parents because I earned my money myself.
I'd tell you daughter if she wants more money, she'll have to earn it herself.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

How long ago were you 11? Because I am 23 and found it impossible to get a job till I was 13, and even then only a paper round. This was despite making my Mum traipse round the shops with me, waiting outside while I asked if they needed any staff.
I only got the job in the shop when I was 15 as I looked much older and didn't tell them till after they had given me the job!0 -
I bought everything for myself from aged 13. Including decorating my bedroom.
I give my daughters as much as I cande do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
At this age I was pleased because I was allowed to keep all the money that I earned as long as I bought my own non-school clothes. My mum was clear with me that I was privileged because I didn't have to give anything into the house and I was grateful for this.
I would assume that your daughter is doing chores for this money?0 -
I feel that £30 a week is VERY generous. Do you have a good salary? Its difficult, but does she understand the value of money. Alot of people have to survive on that, so I'd say talk to her, ask her to say what she wants the money for. Perhaps she could get a part time job if she wants more money....There is no need to run outside

30 quid a week! I think thats more than enough for a 15 year old.
Is she going to have £30 'spare' when she gets her first job and has to start budgeting for herself? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

Wow £30 aweek! I think that is a lot! I have a 16 yr old son who has had a paper round for 3 years and has coped on this £10 a week. I might give him a fiver now and again, but have never really given him regular amounts. I have always helped him with his papers though, folding them and delivering a few especially when he had his exams. He now has a saturday job and doesn't ask for any money really. I go halfs with him on clothes coz he likes to buy the 'in' makes but he is gradually becomming self sufficiant. Does your daughter do jobs for you to earn that money at all?0
