    Again thanks for the replies.

To the poster who asked why I didnt go out in the car, I did try once but I couldn't hack family shouting at me and judging me, and it made me worse in the learner car, I had a lot of cars and instructors (BSM's fault not my own) and every change was a nightmare really so I just had to stick with the learner car. And I want to do pass plus but can't afford the £150 right now and our council don't take part in the scheme.

I think what had happened yesterday was a combination of not wanting to hold people up and bringing clutch up to fast plus setting off from handbrake as that's how I learnt.

I realised last night I don't feel comfortable in the car though, I feel as though its too big, sporty and powerful for me but another car isn't an option so will just have to keep on going.

Edit: I was fine setting off and at junctions it was just the roundabout and traffic lights which leads me to believe I'm panicking because of other people!
It was me who said about that, and I know what you mean!
I only used to go out with my dad because he was calm and never got angry or judged me, compare with my mum who always used to moan about everything I did! (She even does this now, 9 months after I passed my test)

i had it the other way round, my mum was taking refresher lessons and wanted me to go out in the car with her so she could practise. I got so sick of hearing her complaining about the car and this that and the other, that i turned the radio on to drown her out. She forgot all about trying to hard and just settled in to driving.

P plate normally stands for P!sh driver so unless that is you, leave them alone.

If you can't drive without stalling then go and practice somewhere quiet and don't leave until you can drive the car.

Once - it happens. 4 times in a mile, maybe P plates are the answer...

P plates = big sign on the car saying 'If you want to make a dodgy insurance claim, slam the anchors on infront of me, and claim, claim, claim!!!'

Put the P plates up. Give yourself every chance. Other drivers will give you a better chance. Why do you think R plates are compulsory in Northern Ireland?

How did you manage to pass your drivig test if can't drive a car a mile without stalling it four times!!??

Everyone makes silly mistakes when they first pass. The week I passed my test, I drove my dads car (Mk1 2.0 Cavalier) about 4 miles with the handbrake on!

    I never did tell him!:o

Thanks that made me feel so much better :) (sorry haha)

It wasnt like I stalled mid gear change or something daft like that it was a case of panic so I'm sorry but that doesn't make me s sh!tty driver!
I'm going out in a little while to get more practice but as said I was fine wednesday night its just when I have everyone else behind me so I think I may have to borrow a previous posters LBW policy :D

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

I bought P plates and they were the best thing for me - Getting on the motorway the first few times they were really helpful as people moved lanes when I was indicating as they didn't want me near their cars!

After a month or so they came off and I haven't looked back

    Evening all.
I passed my test yesterday, and I am trying to get to grips with the family car.
I went out last night when it was dead but only down the industrial estate, and tried today only went to tesco (1 mile away) and I stalled it 4 times, 2 at roundabout, 2 at traffic lights, and obviously I could see people getting rather annoyed, and I don't blame them.

I said to my partner I think I should get some P plates just so people can be a little more understanding and not just think I'm an idiot but he disagrees and reckons people would actually be less understanding.

Just wondering what peoples views are on it?

Grats on passing first of all.

My instructor always said putting P plates on your car is like wacking a great big L on the back... people treat you like a learner still and it will probably dent not improve your confidence.

Take the car to a quiet carpark and get used to pulling off, stopping, pulling off, stopping etc so your used to the bite point in the new car.

Once you've more used to that, take it out onto the road and put it into practise

If you stall, just put your hand up (like when you thank someone for giving way etc) and i'd say 99% of people will just wait. Even if they get annoyed, your not going to see them again nor can they say anything to you as your in a car :). Remember, if you stall don't panic and think 'ahh god people are going to be held up!' because your more likely to stall again. Just go at your own pace, start it back up, find the biting point and pull away.

Even experienced drivers stall every now and then

Best of luck with it, keep at it!
