Hi Everyone
Caught the tail end of that programme. Agree with everyone - food prices are going through the roof - fuel, gas, leccy too.
I recently picked up a cheap 2nd freezer, can def recommend doing that, less time shopping plus you can stock up on cheapies, home grown, leftovers etc.
I've got the using up leftovers down to a fine art now, although I'm sure there's always room for improvement.
We regularly have something I call "Fridge Fricasee" - any old leftovers, either with rice, pasta, or fried potatoes.
I have to remove the crusts of bread for OH because he has swallowing problems - I have a bag of crusts in the freezer, they will be made into a bread pudding.
If you have access to Home Bargains - they are good for tins and store cupboard essentials. Aldi's veg are a bit hit and miss here - they don't keep for long, so I have to make sure they are used up quite quickly. I also use Farm Foods, Herons and local markets.
I have no loyalty to any of the supermarkets, I try and rotate my shopping, so Aldis once a month, Asda once a month. I recently got a £10 voucher from Sainsbury's if I spent £30, so I did a stock up this week on meat.
Local veg shop has a section where stuff is reduced to 20p, picked up some plums, bananas and parsnips. (parsnips are in a casserole in slow cooker as we speak - meat is steeetched with veg).
I have a small garden and am trying to grow as much as possible, every container I can find, cabbages wedged in the flower borders, I've even got french beans in the front garden, next to the geraniums:rotfl:
Who cares, bean flowers are quite pretty.
All this shopping around is time consuming though but it can be worth it to help you budget go a bit further.0 -

No, offence, Reverbe. You are wrong. The government prints phantom money out of thin air. As a result the pound in your pocket becomes less valuable, and prices only APPEAR to rise. Unless you have grasped this, you will not understand what is happening to you, and you will not know whom to blame. Inflation is not an Act of God; it is an act of government. And they do not do it by accident.0 -

How do you all get vouchers for money off your Mr T shopping? The only thing I ever get is a till-split with either 50p of Iams (which I never buy) or £1 off Always Ultra!
If the till-splits are supposed to be related to the things you buy it makes me look like I only ever buy cat food & sanitary products!
