Naughty Council

I must say, I regard a breach of private data as serious. One with potential bad consequences. And I would not be happy about the council phoning up, being vague, and coming to collect mis-sent data in some kind of cloak and dagger way.
OP: I would send the stuff you received to the data protection officer at the council. And ask for confirmation that the cause of the breach has been investigated and dealt with.0 -
It wouldn't really serve any purpose, which is why I'm wondering whether to bother.
What I DO know is that if the council had a problem with me, and not the other way round, they'd be quick enough to get onto my case about it...
It sounds like you are wanting to hold the council to ransom at a later date just in case they get on your back about something so you can use their mistake of the letter against them.
This will serve no purpose.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
Look, i've been on these forums a long time, I know that new posters get given a load of grief, its almost like an initiation ceremony.
However... I'M NOT NEW.
Just tell me, are the council being out of order by sending and then expecting to collect that letter. Or am I being overly bothered.
Thats all I want to know.
Nothing else.
Why on earth did you need to set up a new account just to ask this?0 -
:shocked:Blimey, this is a henious act indeed....0

i kept getting sent tax forms for someone else, the person named had never lived at my address (i've been here 9 years, people before me were here 14 years and i knew them well)
at one point a sky installation person even showed up to install a new box and dish for the person, even though i've had sky tv since i moved in. very annoying. so i can see why OP might not want to just let it go.
however, maybe instead of causing a 'stink' you could just write them a note expressing your concerns about this mistake.<insert super cool inspirational sig here>0 -
OP: search your local council website for 'data protection' and send the information to them. If you are unhappy with the response, contact the ICO: https://www.ico.gov.uk.
Carelessness with personal data isn't a good thing.0
