Look, i've been on these forums a long time, I know that new posters get given a load of grief, its almost like an initiation ceremony.

    However... I'M NOT NEW.

Just tell me, are the council being out of order by sending and then expecting to collect that letter. Or am I being overly bothered.

Thats all I want to know.

    Nothing else.

Perhaps the point I'm making is that this shouldn't happen; its a clear breach of private data.

Don't you think that sending out a letter with someone elses details on it is a serious problem?

Yeah it's a problem, but they are obviously resolving it.

How this can even be made into a thread of whether you should "kick up a fuss" or not is beyond me.

How are they being out of order? I don't get your mindset?

They have recognised a problem, and are rectifying it by coming to collect it personally.

I thought they were out of order by releasing other peoples private and personal information.

It looks like the general train of thought is that they are trying to fix the problem, so I guess that will be an end to it.

Thanks for this particular post, it did anwer what I was asking :-)

Accidents happen even in the most organised offices. There is nothing "in it for you" the most I should imagine you could do is report them for breach of data protection which could have some recourse for them but then again if they find out it was you and you still have dealings with them................................. I personally would hate to be their guniea pig :)

I would just let them have it back safe in the knowledge that you are not the kind of person to try and do anything with the details you got incorrectly.

    HTH :)

Or you could argue that the fact you needed to post it here for some sort of group vote on how you should feel about someone else's personal information, should tell you something.

I think you should praise your local council for actually realising their mistake and being pro-active in trying to resolve it..............

    But that's just my opinion!

Maybe its a new cost saving approach your council has implemented...........

Instead of wasting two pieces of paper to issue two letters, they are just using both sides of the same page!

So now that your done reading your side, they are helpfully going to forward it on to the other person so they can read their side!

Brilliant & maybe they'll get people on community service to collect & re-deliver to the next recipient to save on salary.
Several years ago I had a bank statement through & was very confused on first sight when I saw that I somehow had thousands of pounds, I'd have been surprised to have 10's of £s.
Somehow my statement & someone else's had got folded up together.
    Alas I was still poor.
Maybe I could have sued for false hope, disappointment or something.
There again I could see that an error had been made & popped the statement into my local bank.

Everybody makes mistakes at some point, it's how they deal with it that counts. Sounds to me as though they're doing their best to rectify the matter.

Before reading the above two posts, I was going to cheer you up by saying, don't worry, the other gentleman has probably got YOUR details also.
