I think in order to get things moving towards changing the stops location, this new neighbour would have to have some leverage over the council or the bus company. This being the case, I suspect you won't have a lot of success in fighting it. Cash is king and someone's been filling hands with it.

To be honest I'd fight it on the grounds of the cheek of the neighbour alone. If it's disruptive for them why wouldn't it be disruptive for someone else? Is there no where on your road that's not close to a house? I do agree it would devalue your property as well, there are clearly people who would be put off based on this thread alone so how could it not devalue it?

I also agree it will lead to anti social problems, there is one outside my neighbours house and you get all sorts there.

I agree. Surely, if they move the bus stop to outside your house, they are just transferring the problems from one property to another. Will everything that causes problems to your new neighbour not cause problems for you? If they do, then the only thing the bus company will achieve by moving the bus stop is to run up a bill. I could understand a council doing this to keep a 'jobsworth' in work, but not a private company.

  • to be honest, having a bus stop outside your house would most definitely reduce the value of your house, whenever i walk past houses in my area with bus stops outside them there is always litter, despite there being litter bins there, as well as of course having strangers hanging outside your property which no one would want.

i dont see how they can move a bus stop on the request of the person whos house it is outside, if they dont want it outside then what right do they have to force it upon someone else who will equally be unhappy about it?

I do agree that it seems strange to move the bus stop on the request of just one person.

I'm obviously strange in welcoming one outside my home. ;)

Unless of course, that person happens to be a local councillor (or is part of the same funny handshake brigade as someone from the council).

As already mentioned, it is the local council who have to approve the placement of bus stops, and the fact that the new neighbour recently obtained planning permission for the conversion of the property make me think that they may well have mentioned the bus stop during the planning application.
Have you had a chance to look at the planning application (often available online) to see if this subject was mentioned.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments, a letter objecting to the proposed bus stop move will be sent asap. I'll update the thread with the outcome.
