Notification that bus stop is to be moved outside my house

  • You can always object to any planning issues that are happening on your road, in your town, in your county and country.

Just make sure you present your case full of facts and devoid of any emotion.. Bus stops do need to be somewhere but if there is a chance that a parked bus may block someones dropped kerb access to their property at any time then the move will normally be thrown out.

Had a similar thing nearly happen. The bus company wanted to move the stop to outside a property which was on the corner of a narrow road which is the only access to my property. Both myself and the owner of the property were unhappy. My neighbour because they didn't want people sitting on their wall while they were waiting for a bus and me because standing pedestrians blocked my view when trying to get my vehicle out of a narrow road onto a busy road. Objected with the bus company but also managed to get the local planner/highways person to come and look at it. Managed to reach a good compromise by asking them to consider the health and safety aspects of the siting of the stop and very nicely advising them that when my car got smashed up( as I'm sure it would have done) as a result of a restricted view that the first thing I would be doing would be to request their risk assessment as to the identifiable risks in this case and how they were managing such risks. Planner decided to advise the bus company to site the stop elsewhere. Job done :))
The question I would ask is what is the financial cost of the moving this stop and what is the net benefit? If it is only for the benefit of one household I am very surprised they are doing it. Even if the bus company pay for the stop the local council pay for street furniture and any alteration to pavements etc. May be worth getting your local councillor involved as they would be interested why council money is being spent perhaps only for the benefit of 1 property particularly when so many services are being cut. Hope things work out for you.
  • time for a survey think most people would vote they didnt want a bus stop outside of their house, why would you unless you liked buses :)

OP how do you know that is the reason the bus stop is being moved, did the bus company inform that in writing or are you making an assumption??

Cheers I never thought of this...

Pitkin, the notification does state the neighbours have requested the bus stop be moved as it's causing a disturbance.

People are being unnecessarily harsh on the OP. If the OP had wanted a house with a bus stop outside then they would have bought one in the first place.

If I was notified of an intention to move a bus stop outside my house I would fight tooth and nail to stop it. It's not the actual bus stop that's the problem, it's the people waiting at the stop - sitting on your wall, throwing litter in your garden and generally being a nuisance. Surely it would also impact on the value of your house?

Maybe you should try to get a free consultation with a solicitor to see what your options are?

Well there is your argument then really, if they are accepting "disturbance" as a reason to remove it surely has to be accepted as a reason not to place it also.

Of course they have to go somewhere and most people wouldn't want them right outside of there house but if it was there before you moved in then really its tough. As for the other poster comparing it to parked cars its totally different. Most people don't stand outside a parked car every 15/30/60 mins waiting in groups.

I don't have a bus-stop, unfortunately! However a nearby house is the local distribution point for the evening paper so I have the paper-boys (not the girls strangely enough) sitting on my wall, throwing litter in my garden and leaving various drink bottles in my hedge. It's a nuisance but not something worth getting overly worked up about.

Perhaps, but then equally people would probably vote that they didn't want parked cars belonging to other people outside their house if they were given the two options. A survey will give no relevant information.

Unfortunately some people will inevitably have bus stops outside their houses. :)

Of course they will but why move the bus stop from its perfectly accpetable postion that it is in now.

But I am guessing by your posts that if the OP was the one who had complained to the bus company that it was causing a disturbance and wanted it moved, you would be jumping on them to?

Thats once a day though, and i'm sure if you phoned the local paper to inform them they would move the point somewhere else.
