I wouldn't add any water; you will have soup inside! just a little sugar + butter, cinnamon if you like it. You can make turnovers with puff pastry, just roll it a little thinner, cut out squares, then put your cooked apple filling inside, fol 1 corner into the other so you get a triangle shape and use egg to hold the edges together.0

When making apple pie, I dont; cook the apples at all. (but then I hardly ever use cooking apples) Peel em, cut em up and put them in the pastry. if you're using puff pastry, dont do a bottom crust, the grease will be disgusting, just do a top one. 2 apples won't be enough, either I suspect, unless you are making a really small pie, I usually use about 8.0

no i don't like mixing my fruit. its ok tho as the apples must have been big as they have filled the pie plate nicely.

They look great as well as being delicious.
P.S. If I were cooking this recipe today I'd stick some ground cinnamon on it too (if you have it). Lovely. My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0 -
Hiya,
Just wanted to pick your collective brains for nice simple apple pie recipes which work!
I'm usually a pretty good cook, though I say it myself! I'm great at apple crumble, but DH wants a pie, and I have to confess that mine never turn out that well.
Got a few windfalls left from a bag from his mum's garden.
Got plain flour, various sugars, cooking marge, etc.........
Cooking in a gas oven, so gas mark for temp would be really helpful!
Thanks all in anticipation!

Hi Fary Elephant,
There's an earlier thread with some recipes that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.
