Sony 750i mobile has MP3 player fault.Help!!

Bought the Sony 750i from e2save 2 weeks ago and am now on my 2nd phone, but this one has the same fault as the first one!!!!!! The problem:

I have a small mp3 player so am fairly competent with the transferring of MP3 etc.

But when I connect my 750i to my laptop and the USB device is recognized and then transfer my mp3 songs from Microsoft media Player version 11 every thing seems to work fine, but when I try to find them on my 750i they are not there? So I check that the memory stick is showing in “my computer” as a removable drive its not there!!!!! But, and this is the puzzling thing, It will appear in the media player and "my computer" if I restart my laptop but then if I go out of the media player and then back again it has vanished. I refresh the sync devices, remove and connect the USB cable, turn the phone off and on again but still it has vanished. I need to restart my laptop to see it again. All very frustrating!!! Can you please help?

So as yet I have not been able to player any songs via my phone:o :o

I have tried the above on another computer in case it was my laptops problem but just the same fault.

are the songs in .mp3 or .wav (and maybe aac) otherwise they don't play

have the songs been bought from a download shop such as tesco downloads, if so they are protected that may be the problem

i found a map of the memory stick files and folders
The filesystem on the memory stick contains a directory structure that reflects the multiple uses of the storage medium:

    * dcim/ does contain the pictures taken with the integrated camera
    * mp3/ contains sound files which are accessed by the mutlimedia player and can be used as ringtones
    * mssemc/ Those files are related to the phone itself, the name may be an abbreviation for "memory stick sony ericsson media card" (just a wild guess).
    .. Media files/
    ...... + audio/
    ...... # ringtones/
    ...... # videodj/
    ..+ image/
    ..+ other/
..+ theme/ Theme files have to be placed here in order to be recognized by the phone software
    ..+ video/
    ..+ webpage/

Although MP3 files on the Memory Stick can be used to signal an incoming call, the sound file for message notification has to reside on the built in phone memory. So if you want to use a custom sound for it, you have to copy or move the file with the file manager to this integrated storage.
try dragging and dropping the mp3 files in the mp3 folder (via my computer), if that doesn't work try putting them in the audio folder, via my computer
  • Thanks for this gaming_guy!!

I will try the drag and drop and hope for the best. The files are in .mp3 format and are free audio from the web so are not protected. The other thing I should have said is that when I restart my laptop (with phone connected via USB) I can see the phones memory stick on "My Computer" and it has the .mp3 audio files.....but.... and this stumps me....because when I look for them in my phone they don't show anywhere!!! All very strange.

I think I will need to ask for a replacement phone again, that will be # three and perhaps pay the extra £20 for the Sony 810i instead or go in the samsung direction.

    I appreciate your help:T

  • It wont be the phone causing the trouble.btw sony ericsson supply software (in box) for importing songs (mp3 only NOT wma!) to the k750i which works very well from experience.
  • Make sure you copy the files into the MP3 or audio directories on your memory stick not just to the device, otherwise they don't show up in the MP3 player.

Hopefully this is the problem - easy to solve.
  • Guys, dragged the .mp3 file into the MP3 folder in "my computer". I did this when the 750 was connected via the usb. So its there, in the right folder, on the 750 memory stick........aaaaaaaagh but its not showing anywhere in the 750 phone itself that i can play with the media player on the phone. My 1.5 brain cells are fryed.....I going to bed.....perhaps its candid camera or beagles about....LOL

ok sorry to get technical and all that but do you know what sort of compression your mp3 you songs use. You mention you use windows media 11 which is pretty new. The phone is a 18months old and so perhaps it doesn't recognise the mp3 compression used by media player 11. The mp3's definitely have the .mp3 extension?

As noted above the K750 doesn't play wma's, microsoft's favoured format
If i have helped, use the thanks button!
  • Thanks Bolo I did not think of the compression issue. I checked and the audio file is compessed at only 24kbps. And it has .mp3 as the file extension. I even did a master reset on the phone. Restarted my laptop and can see the memory stick and it has the audio file i placed in the memory stick MP3 folder and I even placed it in the ringtones folder too . But when I look at my phones media player or ringtone folder on my phone its not there, even though it is connected to my laptop via the USB cable and I can see the audio file in both these folders via "my computer" on my laptop......I need a holiday:-)!!!!!

    Thanks for your patience
