Best way to give away an older cat ?

Just thought I would up date this. It has not been possible to find a shelter or any centre to take him and I have tried 4 busy pet sites, gumtree, pre loved etc and only had one reply from the whole lot and that was from someone who wanted me to take him 50 miles so they could take a look at him before making up their mind which would be fine but if I had that sort of money I could board him for a couple of weeks.
I actually think things are getting worse now as he was up all last night trying to kill the place and when I boxed him (for 2 hours to try and get some sleep) he pee'd all over the carrier and blanket.
Sure it was out of spite because I know he managed longer then that before (during the move etc)
I really can't cope any more and can't see a way forward other then putting him to sleep..I know that is horrible but I need so badly to sleep and can't carry on trying to manage on 2 hours a night.
Does anyone have any new thoughts ? ?

I'd just let him out anyway and leave him to himself (with food and water)....If anyone tries kicking you off the site then just say he aint your cat he's not welcome in the house so he made the choice to leave. Nothing against the cat but if it's a choice between living against the rules on a site where he isn't welcome or pts I'd just let him go out and live with the consequences.:footie:

Am I alone in feeling that animals should not be traded in free ad papers? We have loads offered on Freecycle and that's bad enough.
OP - I'm sorry you've found yourself in this situation but feel you owe it to your cat to home him responsibly using a charity or to someone you know will care for him properly.:hello:0 -
i thought it was illegal to enforce a no pet rule in properties?0

I don't disagree but there is no one to take him so what else can I do ?There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

There is no law against it. Illegal means a criminal offence has been commited and there isn't any laws like that. If a landlord decides they do not want pets, you declare you have none, yet they find that you do all they can do is issue an eviction notice against you. Either 2 months or at the end of a fixed term. The landlord won't have a criminal record for evicting you and they won't get a fine or a prison sentence.i thought it was illegal to enforce a no pet rule in properties?:footie:

Have you tried Feliway? It's to reduce stress in cats. Have you taken cat to vet maybe the vet can give you something to give to the cat to calm him down.Gothicfairy wrote: »I don't disagree but there is no one to take him so what else can I do ?:footie:

But they know he is mine and he is chipped etc. If I get kicked off here then we are making 2 dogs and 2 cats also homeless so it is not fair to make their lives worse either.
Also as it is a farming site he could be shot , poisoned etc so I am not sure just letting him out is that simple.
I just don't think I can cope with being homeless again although I do understand what you are sayingi thought it was illegal to enforce a no pet rule in properties?
It is not a property. I have the pets, it is the going outside that is the problem and I do understand what they are saying and can't really blame them for wanting to keep cat off the site.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

We have a plug in but it really doesn't seem to make any difference with him, the vet tried him on tranks when we moved and he didn't react well to them and had to have the expensive kind ( of course) and to be honest at about £20 for 4 I just can't afford that every night.
I did try flower stuff but that didn't seem to make any difference either and I can't wait months to see which product would actually work.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Oh well. It's up to you. If you do let him out and are kicked off site you'll have to be given at least 2 months notice to leave. A caravan is still considered a property so all tenancy laws apply. When you don't leave at the end of the 2 months it'll take another month or two to go through court to get you evicted so you'll have quite a while to find something else.:footie:
