berbastrike - again, I know you've done plenty of research and you seem to know your stuff, but just because a screen is 1080p, doesn't give you a good picture, just because something looks good on paper doesn't mean it is. You are being marketed to remember, it's their job to make it look good to you! I suppose you think it has a good contrast ratio too? My advice as before is to look at the picture on the screen before actually buying the set.

I very much doubt those energy figures.

Your "old" 19" CRT monitor is unlikely to use 53 watts, it will most likely use closer to double that. Check the back of the monitor for a closer figure, it will use a little less than it's rated power in normal usage.

I have tested all my PC gear using a plugin energy monitor so I know how much it uses. 6 hard drives, 6 case fans, Core 2 Quad CPU, 4 GB DDR 2 memory, Dual Satellite card, Dual Freeview card, nVidia 1GB GT 240 graphics card and it idles at around 110-130 depending upon how many hard drives go to sleep.

When overclocked, it uses about 160 watts, rising to well over 250 when working hard. That could rise even further if my Video card starts working decoding HD video while encoding but I haven't check it during those times yet.

One problem with PCs at the moment is that they are left switched on for long periods even when not being used so that you don't have to wait for them to boot up. I prophecy that eventually we will have a PC that will boot up instantly and users will switch on, use it, then switch off again.

It's called standby mode :T I used it all the time. 5/6 watts is a big power saving and a price that I am prepared to pay to have my PC almost instantly available.
