Current owned gadgets that probably need upgrading and their power consumption:

PC (7 years old, still ok) - 120W
    TV (5 years old, 20" LCD) - 70W
    Monitor (6 years old, 19") - 53W
    Total power consumption = 243W

    I can now get new:

    A slightly faster PC - 25W
    A bigger 22" LED TV - 20W
    A bigger 23" Monitor - 20W
    Total power consumption = 65W

A saving of 178W. Rought calculations, using each device 8 hours per day = 1424W saved per day or 519,760W per year. If I pay 13p per kwh, a saving of £68 per year using better equipment.

But that will not be happening if you work and sleep and eat unless you spend allday watching tv and/or on the pc.

You will not get a pc using only 25W - a laptop , yes - more like 100+ watts.

    I beg to differ:

Its on here too: http://www.energystar.gov/ and I have looked at reviews/forums and the power consumption is 20W at idle and up to 30W when busy.

Its also silent so no PC buzzing noise and a very small box.

    Yeah, too many hours estimated.

But the standby power would also be much less on these more modern gadgets.

Really? Thats the same as a laptop with the screen brightness turned down and not charging the battery.

Where are you getting your figures from?

You're the one that said he should stick with an 7 year old pc.

Bit of consistency in your argument, eh.

You have thousands of posts here, but you still come across as a noobie.

Unless your computer is more than 6 years old, it won't be any quicker and it will struggle playing HD Youtube streams. It is basically a netbook in a desktop case. I would say that depending on the spec of your 7 year old computer, you may find its slower.
