Thanks for comments so far guys........... so,............. Clearview and Stovax are recommended.... that's a good start..... anymore?!
PS, Any installers here working in the SE? If so, please drop me a quick PM
Check out woodwarm stoves. They have preheated air which keeps glass clean for weeks and are more efficient than clearview stoves0 -
Have a look at ( What stoves ) it will let you see
peoples reviews on the stoves they have bought and how they feel about them0 -
@hethmar
Apologies for hijacking this thread but I've been reading your replies and I'm hoping you can offer some impartial advice - I'm looking to do 2 things reduce the use of GCH (it's old/inefficient) thus saving money and two put more heat into a house with large rooms high ceilings and solid brick walls.
Will adding a multi-fuel stove do the above - given the high initial outlay and cost of buying wood/fuel/kindling and maintenance (chimney swept twice a year)?
I've had conflicting opinions from both this forum and HETAS installers.

Im not Hethmar but I would say that if I was on mains gas, id spend my money updating my GCH system rather then installing a stove
Im on oil so for us it is cheaper to have the stove lit BUT - time its cleaned out and relit it could be 11am before its chucking out heat. The cost of wood is prohibitive here so we rely on coal (smokeless) which whilst isn't as expensive is heavy and dirty and causes dust everywhere.
Give me mains gas any day0 -
Hi there, any thoughts on Dru/Mendip?
Thanks0 -
hi im new here and ive spent ages looking for a multi burner stove i hate the frills on most of the stoves out there i like plain and simple but they are very hard to find, i read on here someone said stay away from ebay sellers but they are the only ones i like, the ones which come from germany which have a dim mark?
the only uk one which i like are the mendip stoves does anyone know about these?
i have a solid concrete house so no wall insulation and want to heat my downstairs so living room conservatory and hallway and was thinking of an 8kw any ideas?0 -
Hi Keely33,
last year we replaced our old scandanavian cast iron stove, which was over 40 years old as it had no viewing window and I wanted a more modern/efficient woodburner.
Spent ages looking at stoves, and went for a Yeoman Exe which is 7kw max 5kw nominal.

Chose it because very simple controls and very robust.
Large viewing window (single door model) and 600mm wide for larger logs (less chopping).
Having used it over the past winter, found it to be excellent and would recommed this make/model. :money:
There are lots of good stoves, a friend has a Charnwood Country 8, which he loves.
Regards

I'd have said there were more plain Scandinavian-looking stoves on the market these days, than ornate ones (cheaper to make, more fashionable with fans of minimalism etc).
Maybe a look at http://www.whatstove.co.uk or one of the big online retailers like stonesonline.co.uk might give you a better selection?
If plain looking and good quality are your criteria, Morso takes a lot of beating.0
