Deefin, you sound very inventive. Wilkinsons sound like a great place to shop but I don't think we have any near me.

there are lots of things you can adapt / make for yourself @ little cost
what i do is look on the disability web shops at the pictures see what i need and try and come up with a cheaper non disability alternative
the pure fact that things are labled disability means these people charge a fortune even with the vat option .
the disabled are ripped off pure and simple .
try thinking out side the "disability " box when buying products
if anyone needs any help with any further ideas id be happy to help
ive made or alternatively bought at least 70% of my disability products to suit my own needs
btw i have ms . chronic arthritis and bradycardia

I went to boots and they had the grabber for £2.25, the key turner for £1.25 are foldable walking stick for £3.25, various other bits and bobs reduced right down, they only had a small section but the man said get it while it is such low cost because they are trying to get rid of it all as new stock takes over, worth a look.

I would be interested to know what you have adapted for chronic arthritis which is what I have, I really need not a bed guard but a bed getter out of saw one for £59.99:eek:

I need a way to crawl up the stairs:rotfl:give up most ofthe time and sleep downstairs.

I need a way to put my bra on, do buttons up especially jeans ones, I have bits and bobs like the can opener, the jug kettle tipper, jar openers, the grabber, bath rail, toilet rail, I use straws for drinks, have the key turner, very long shoe horn, all my family help, it is just nice to be able to try and do it myself.

The ‘Turneasy’ is a portable swivel seat cushion which is ideal for easier car access. This rotating cushion helps to alleviate back and hip strain by reducing the need for twisting movements. It smoothly rotates 360° in any direction allowing easier transfer in and out of a car.

The Turneasy can be used as a turning aid in a car as well as on a chair or bed, or as a stand-on turntable for indoor transfer assistance. This comfortable foam padded cushion is available with either a machine washable fleece cover, or an easy wipe-clean vinyl finish.

    Features
    • Ideal for easier car access
    • Helps to alleviate back and hip strain
    • Smooth 360° rotating action
    • Ease of transfer in and out of car
    • Can also be used on a chair or bed or stand on turntable indoors
    • Available in fleece or vinyl
I would also like one of these but have read many reviews that say it is not worth the money and can be very awkward to get along with

for help with buttons , i tend not to buy button trousers but i have found that asda do lovely maternity jeans behind the top front pockets are strectchy fabric so you can just pull them on and off without button fuss
use some garden wire to make a large crochet type hook that pops through your button holes and grabs your button to pull it through . as with the cutlery . pop the cut ends in to a bike handle filled with diy foam for a nice grabable handle .
for blouses ect . i just remove the buttons sew them on the button holes and pop velcro dots on the rear ,, no one can tell the difference

Would the swivel board the exercise one put in the car swivel with you to help you out?

I have one of the claws:D

The banister one sounds excellent but I do not have a banister well I do just a thick piece of long wood one side, then nothing on the next set of stairs as the wall is there, so there are 6 steps-long wood, 7 steps nothing just wall, they go around, 6 steps, a big bit of landing, turn corner 7 steps. I have no chance:D

The pulley also fantastic but I carry nothing heavy, ever, gave up on that a long time ago:D

I did buy this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Handybar-Auto-Entry-Exit-Handle/dp/B0007PF8PU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311267419&sr=8-1 but unfortunately it did not fit the car, wasted money, maybe not as when I get into someone else's car I can use it if the hole fits

I have given up buying blouses tops with buttons, it is a no no, if I ever get bought ones with buttons I just wear them open with a top underneath so they are like a layered look but I never have to do them up.

I am def going to do the cutlery or at least get my husband to do it for me, he likes projects:D
