Cheaperst 0845 package for Mobiles?

I have just been speaking to a friend who pays almost £40 a month for a special 0845 package on an old Tmobile handset. Surely there are cheaper packages than this?

He mainly phones Barclay's stockbrokers for automated quotes and dealing which requires 0845 something. He lives in a caravan and has computer phobia.

I will mention the alternative geographical numbers as well, and the benefit of using landlines, but doubt if he will bother with these. The non-geographical ones are often of only transitory value in my experience.

Search for 'barclays stockbrokers' on http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

and you can get 01 numbers to ring.

As regards stock quotes - there are plenty of sites which offer 20 minute delayed quotes for free which can be received on a mobile equipped with internet data package. Plenty of apps on android which help with quotes etc too.
  • If it's a smart phone look for a SIP provider (like SIPgate) or use Skype for outgoing calls - both are VOIP so need an internet connection to work (but you can get much cheaper 0845/0870 etc).

He has no smartphone, no computer or connection and already mentioned I will give him the non-geographical for Barclays numbers from 0870.

I may have found the answer here on 18185, you seem to dial 020 81 80 2828 (local rate), wait of the voice prompt, then the 0845 number. It has a 4p connnection fee then 3p/min on weekdays

  • A Tesco 'Lite' PAYG sim charges 8p a minute to 0845
    ''apply within'' :)

Actually that 18185 number in my previous post might exclude the normal charge or 'free' time to 02 numbers.

That Tesco one sounds more practical and easier to use, so I'll look into that for him.

Have I intepreted this correctly, it doesn't sound credible. This suggests you get £30 for £10, less than 3p per minute for 0845 effectively!
How do I triple my credit

For example top-up £10 in a month and you get £20 of free credit, tripling it to £30 credit.

The previous poster is referring to the tesco lite tariff. The Tesco tariff with free credit charges 20p a min to call 0845 numbers.;)

18185 is good if you have inclusive landline minutes to call 020 access number, but if you dont you would have to add the cost of calling it from your provider.

    http://www.savacalldirect.com/countrydetail.aspx?country_id=216 also offer 3p a minute via a geographical number .

This sounds more realistic, still 8p doesn't sound too bad!

giffgaff sim gives you free access to 0800/0808/0500 freephone numbers so if you used 18185 Freephone 0808 access number you would get it for 3p a min plus 5 p connection.:D

I think I pay more than that from my Virgin landline... (unless I remember to phone from work!)
