Should I Leave My Buyer a Note?

Not in a gloating way. Honest. Though he has been a nightmare to deal with so there is a temptation to.

As a polite, decent person I want to make him aware of bin dates etc but should I tell him what's wrong with the gas fire, that the central heating timer doesn't work or leave him to work it out?

(He'll also find out that the roof tiles are on upside-down but perhaps not until they curl up in a few years)

Better to leave him all these details, then him harassing you afterwards for the info.

Were you not asked to complete a questionnaire about the working condition of the heating etc pre-exchange? If so, did you tell the truth?

Why are the roof tiles on upside down? Why did you not rectify this situation as soon as you knew of the problem?

I'm struggling with your description of yourself as being 'polite' and 'decent' to be honest - you have come across to me as a bit sneaky and smug.

Of course I told the truth.

As to why I didn't rectify the problem of the roof (which I was only aware of in the last 3-4 weeks), a small matter of £2,500 just may have been a consideration. He was tight enough to only get a basic survey done and then expected me to pay for a roofing surveyor to assess it.

Thanks for being judgemental too with knowing no more than some basic facts - it's nothing less than expected from some posters on here.

    Tremendously well I'd have thought.

It doesn't matter that he's been an idiot just give him the info anyway, at least then he knows what needs fixing. i agree though these days it's just too risky to do the cheap survey, your not saving yourself any money in the long run.

It's a financial transaction - nothing more. I'll cope either way. I've never met the chap and perhaps never will.

Not when he's alleged to have have had £30k saved as his deposit. A little short sighted to try and save a couple of hundred quid but you make your choice and have to live with it. Or in it in this case.

The person we bought the house off was amazing. She left a bulging lever arch file containing everything to do with the house, such things as :

    Bin dates
    Taxi numbers
    Takeaway menus with recommendations
Receipts for every major purchase in the house - we're talking ten year bathroom fittings and such like
The names and brand of each paint colour used on the walls - same with wallpaper, blinds and curtains
Instruction booklets on every appliance in the house
The name and contact details of every workman that had been in the house and what work they had done

The list goes on and on

We were very grateful for this despite that during the buying process she'd been a pain.

When I bought this house I moved in whilst the previous owner was in the garden trying to dig up flowers and shrubs to take with her!
