Cleaning sheepskin

  • He says "ethanol (in vodka) should dissolve sugary substances and unhook anything bonded on to the sueded leather". Is there a bit of cuff or somewhere un-noticed that you could put a bit of vodka on first to make sure it doesn't mark? Then try it on the stain. I'm assuming it is on the smooth skin side.

This family is banned from Ebay since my DS bought a bit of mud for £100 (which we didn't have to pay thanks to the help of a lawyer-friend).
  • I could test it on the armpit. The other mark is on the fluffy collar and looks like, oh I don't know what it looks like - dust maybe?

Mud - £100? Did he think there was gold in it??

  • DH says they are both protein (fluffy and smooth sides) so they shouldn't react differently. If it doesn't work - try drinking the vodka, always works for me!!!

have you tried jsut washing it in shampoo?
I've has sheepskins for years, they started as snugglers for the babies and over the years have evolved int mats and dogbeds.
washing them in the machine with small squirt of plain shampoo, good skin, leave to air dry on line if poss.
for skins, it's best to peg from the hind legs, not sure how this could be interpretted for your jacket
    good luck with it

Hey all , I have a sheepskin rug from that is looking pretty worse for wear.

I washed it in the machine sucessfully 2 months ago but the cat threw up over it so this time my bf washed it whilst I was away.

i'm not sure what he did because the colour has gone from creamy white to a dirty yellow/ brown colour:confused:

He also didn't hang it up to dry so now, after a week it pongs

I was thinking about chucking it but was wondering if bleaching it is an option as a last ditch attempt to save it

What do you think? Do I need special beach or will my shop brand pine bleach do? Is it best to bleach it in the bath? Should I wash it in the machine after I have bleached so the smell comes out?

    Help!!!

If it fits in your machine, I would try re-washing it before you hit the bleach. If he hasn't hung it up to dry, that may be why the colour has gone yucky.

If it is still nasty, then maybe try bleaching it, I would just dilute about 2 egg cups of bleach in water and then add to the powder drawer when water has gone into machine....washing it down with more water to rinse it through.

If, the rug is a tight squeeze in your washer, take it to your local launderette and use one of their machines, they are usually bigger than a domestic.

Have you a back garden. The best way of cleaning a sheepskin rug is unside down on the snow and walk on it.Fur side to the snow:rotfl: No snow then turn the garden hose on it you can even add some shampoo as long as you rinse well then over the clothesrope to drip dry. When it is finished dripping bring it inside and finish drying over the bath or on an airer.

I usually wash mine in the bathtub I have to say... use biological washing detergent and when needed a bit of bleach to get it back to its white glory!
Just make sure you wash the bleach out carefully afterwards or it might damage the skin of the rug and start it disintegrating!
Once dry then get the hairbrush out and start one end and work your way through it! lovely and soft again!
