Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday, 17th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone.

Had a really bad night's sleep which is unusual. Couldn't get off to sleep last night for ages and woke up at 4 this morning. Had about 10 magpies squabbling on our roof at the time, parents with fat, fluffy young. Why do they have to have their flying school in our garden at such an unreasonable time of day? They also wouldn't be Top of the bird-song Pops!

Sun is trying to get a foothold - or should that be a skyhold? But the forecast is not favourable.

Dinner today, for 8, will be roast beef, Yorkshire pud (I make one large one) with potatoes, runner beans, french beans, spinach and courgettes from the garden. This is our first runner bean meal of the season and it is always a runaway favourite.

Will be off to sing at church later. Got a few jobs I need to do before my shower.
Have a Happy Sunday peeps with hugs for all who want or need - particularly those entertaining black dogs. Sometimes I find PMA doesn't work, but I try to strive on
Cheers m'dears, Silver x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Molly - so glad you are continuing to be painfree x. Please don't overdo things and strain yourself though. Hope you enjoy the HP film. I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD so I can watch on a small screen. I'm far too jumpy to watch it at the cinema!

Morning Silver and molly and all who follow

I was awake at 6am and couldn't go back to sleep :( . Wet and windy here this morning.

No plans for day apart from more sorting/packing/ebaying. May try and get out for an hour or so I don't get cabin fever :rotfl:

OS wise - WM will go on with pair of canvas shoes I wear for work. DW will go on later. Lunch/dinner will include random bits from freezer.

    Have a good Sunday all

Morning all. This is very early for me, especially on a Sunday morning but I was woken up by the sound of my toilet cistern dripping so I decided to investigate and ended up going downstairs for some pliers and adjusting the ballcock. Its all far too much when it isn't quite seven yet! Anyway, all is quiet an peaceful with no dripping so I am happy.

Went downstairs and hung out some washing that had been going overnight on E7 and put in another load. DS came home from a week away with school yesterday so there is lots of washing to be done. I really missed him. He is 15 now, so its really like having a man about the house.

I made a cake yesterday to celebrate his homecoming. This is very unusual, but I am delighted with the results. I made a strawberry & cream sponge sandwich cake. Strawbs were on offer at Lidl yesterday and I used a packet for the sponge - yes I know :o, but baking isn't my forte. I whipped the cream and spread a little strawberry jam on the base before layering it up with some sliced strawberries and the cream. The top was just sifted icing sugar and halved strawberries but it looked beautiful and tasted delicious. I was so proud of my efforts!

The weather is calmer today so I'll pot up some geraniums into tubs to go at the front of the house. The lilies have had a battering in the rain and look a bit tatty now.

Am going to get up for some porridge. Have a good day everybody.

Hugs to anyone suffering with the BD, my hubby has done in the past, it is very hard.
No real plans for today, I've defrosted the last of the Christmas turkey for lunch today & a few meals next week, we're having it with potatoes, carrots, runner beans & broccoli from the garden & hubby will make some stuffing balls too. Gooseberry crumble for pudding, as I made some yesterday. I've managed to get hubby's work clothes dry ready for Monday, everything else will have to wait for a dry day.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

Well its back to work tomorrow for me after a week off. I spent the week doing a mammoth and ruthless declutter of the house (and soon to be ex's things!) DD2 and Partner have now moved back in with me for a few months(?) so that they can save for a deposit to buy their own house (they were renting before and couldn't afford to save whilst doing that) Only problem is that after now being on my own for 6 months and it always being tidy - it is driving me mad having their things everywhere - oh well will take some adjustment on all sides I suppose and it is a means to an end.

Weather forecast here is not too good unfortunately supposed to be showery on and off for most of the day but might try to get a little weeding done between showers, rest of garden looking lovely but my tomatoes seem to be going very slowly this year, lots of little green ones appearing now though.

Hope you all have a lovely sunday, hugs where needed or wanted. Off to make a coffee

Morning all, pouring down here - and according to the forecast its set to continue all day - grrr. Only because I have 2 loads of washing on the airer in the conservatory (could do with the sun to warm it up!) and one load in the machine. Boys already up, but BBC news on the TV ensures they stay in their bedrooms. Planning on roast pork for lunch / main meal today. Still have boxes to empty and have invited friends round for a BBQ next Friday to give me something to work towards!!!

Made 5 pamper hampers from things from MILs house which I'll use at the school Christmas Fair. Put loads in the loft yesterday. Sounds like QRL (Lancers) have lost a soldier - love and hugs to his family. Am pleased I never got that knock on the door. Loads of housework to do - WM, DW TD etc to empty and I MUST put the BM on. I WILL get organised before the children break up from school!!!! I've got no chance after!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all,

It rained for hours here yesterday, DS's football was cancelled and I had to use the tumble drier for the first time in months.
Today is dull and overcast but it is not raining.

Off to visit SIL and MIL today as another SIL is over from France (she has lived there for 20 years).
Children will enjoy seeing their cousins.

Tea tonight is some of the huge batch of chilli that I made yesterday.

Hugs to everyone in need especially Lou

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Morning all, what a night of rain here and things dont look much better looking out the window - or going by bbc's weather forecast. Had an industrious day yesterday, made 19 x1lb and 18 x half pound jars of jam so the store cupboard looks great. Cant help taking a wee peek and feeling really chuffed. Will have another busy day today as back to work tomorrow after 2and a half weeks. I soo wish I could stay at home! never mind needs must and must needs! Roasted a chicken of Friday and never used it yesterday so will make a chicken pie, roast tatty and veg for tea, with apple sponge traybake thing to follow. All the family are due today so it will be a busy place.
Been up since 6 this morning so have got all my lists made for the week, for menu planning, shopping, chores etc I would be lost without it. Not got any washing done - beds should have been done yesterday, but will survive another day - couldnt stand the TD on all day or sheets hanging around the house.
Hopefully will have time to do some knitting today as doing fancy scarves for the christmas fayres as made a wee bit out of this last year, but DD2, who just bought her own place recently, has decided she wishes she bought shorter curtains so asked if I could shorten them and make matching cushions with the off cuts!!! Oh to be multi-talented LOL! Home economics at school taught us plenty - pity they didnt teach it to the newer genreations!!! She wont get off scot free through, I will show her how to do one cushion and she can do the other - same with hemming the curtains.
oh well away for another coffee, hugs to all that need then and best wishes to the rest!
    Every days a School day!
