Postmen signing for parcels and just leaving them?

Sorry to moan about the damn postal service here again but a few weeks ago the postman left a parcel in our shed but this was recorded delivery so hadn't been signed for...

Today I received my certificate for an exam I passed a few weeks ago, it was posted through the letterbox but should have been signed for, we were at home at the time and the postman didn't even knock on the door. I have tried track and trace and this is the message I get.

Recorded Signed For™ items are only tracked after the item has been delivered. Depending on whether the item was sent first or second class, this may be a few days after posting. Please try again later.
Information on your item is not yet available online.

Are they allowed to post recorded items without getting a signature? Surely this leaves ebay sellers open to claims for non delivered items etc.

Mine does it all the time on recorded delivery letters, but I prefer that than being taken back to the sorting office !

I thought recorded got taken back to the nearest post office if you live out of town? Our sorting office is hardly open so I get your point but leaving them outside means you couldn't claim if someone stole it but it says signed for?

no,standard practice is to return them to an RM DO

You could argue it against the fact mr or mrs postie signed and left it somewhere else, I would imagine it would be a long and drawn our proceedure though in order to get a replacement/compensation

Our postie records things a delivered before he delivered them on the electronic receipt thing:mad: We were waiting for a PS3 game for our nephew's birthday to be delivered, (Special Delivery guaranteed by 1pm next day) and I kept track on the internet, Even though we'd been waiting in, it was tracked as being delivered at 12.30pm.When our postie finally brought it at 3pm, DH challenged him re already being tracked as delivered, he actually admitted he'd tracked it as being delivered 3 hours before because he was "running late"

Sorry I should have explained better! My postman only leaves signed for or recorded ones which fit through my door. On my street they'd last about 10 seconds on the doorstep. My car's aerial got nicked a week after I moved in! Students

but then it begs the question of having a 1pm service when staff are working hours beyond that
it made sense when staff were on a 1pm finish
anything delivered late by PDA is flagged as a failure and the delivery office managers will be pulled up for it
it shouldnt happen but this is how things are now
SD's used to be treated as gold plated

Usual cas of a company offering a service without the resources to deliver it and expecting staff to do miracles or failing that make do and then blame them for it.

i never sign for my signed for items theyre always pushed through the letterbox.
this week the postman actually knocked on the door cause the item wouldnt fit through and just handed me it. even though he had seen and physically handed me the item still didnt ask for signiture even though it had a massive orange sticker on it!
it will cause problems for business in general, as no signiture theres no proof it was sent so im sure there are people out there that will ring up a company and get another item sent out saying they didnt recieve it
