Mr Spirit does all the ironing.

Ladies...emancipation doesn't mean you just drop all household tasks, okay? :p
If we are talking ironing, I quite like that.

Re cars. I think it's because of car seats. I never had one, and remembering envying friens with what today would be seen as laughably simple booster seats. Ifyiuhad twokidsinthepast ithinkone would have grown out of a babysat into a simple booster or the normal back seat By the time the next came. I even remember being put as one of four or so on a backseat for school outings or party transport. That would never happen now....but as a result, cars are bigger.

Oh, and we are heavier on average.

The one time I owned a garage I religiously kept my car in it every night, without fail....

We keep ours in the garage every night. It's not a big garage, just enough for my old Mazda 626 and a rack filled with DIY tools, dog food, beer and wine.

Would it help if I do some gok wan style motivational shouting whilst you chase the chickens around?

Thanks for the offer, but no. I'm pretty much feeding and leaving the outside animals ATM.

When I went to school the back door of the car would open and out would tumble, 4 or 5 or 6 or more kids. No seat belts or car seats when I was little. I remember my sister being put in her carry cot on the back seat of the car because it was thought to damage babies' backs if they didn't lie flat.

My parents garage is absolutely teeming with all sorts of guff they've acquired over the years. My mum is a bit of a hoarder (I have elements of this from her too - ie my clothing challenge...). My dad is desperate to get rid of a lot of the stuff. It causes a fair few rows over the years!

I've always garaged my car when possible. Parents garage was extended years ago - the intention being to fit 2 cars in it. Nowadays, the smallest car goes in with all the cr4p.

To be honest, since dad was ill & gave up work, & now they're both over 60 & have bus passes, I don't know why they still have 2 cars.

& from an mse pov, a garaged car is cheaper to insure.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

You see less double garages nowadays, they used to the "the thing to aspire to".

I'd like a double garage, room to park my car in it and open all the doors so that it can be vacuumed easily and/or space to be worked on.

I used to work away in the week and would prefer to be able to pack my cases in my car the night before, in the privacy of my garage, then the next morning simply be leaving the house the same as any other house - and nobody'd know if I were in or out as the can can't be seen. Much more secure than being seen lugging a week's work clothes etc into a car on a Monday morning and driving off.

Also, being able to get any goods/shopping out of the car in the dry/out of the wind is a real "must".

I wouldn't need an integral garage, just a good sized sound garage with electric.

Of course, in the perfect world it would be a tidy garage that could double up as a hobbies stuff storage room/workshop for my planned hobby. I'm excited, I've never had a hobby before (no money/space/interest) and looking forward, maybe in 2013/2014, to being able to have one.

Re Michaels concern for lir. I've mentioned before that I've felt personally very demotivated. Definitely not as happy as I feel I should be atm. I'm aware I'm not alone in this. Initially, because of work situations (almost everyone here is moaning about all sorts & is unhappy) I wondered if it was work related. However, I have spoken with friends who also indicate they're quite down. More than 1 friend has described engaging in similar kinds of behaviour which are/may be described as personally being quite destructive types of behaviour.

Didn't misskool also relate something similar recently?

I'm wondering if this is a seasonal thing, like SAD?
Or is it a sign of the economic times?

    <shrugs>

Lydia, Lydia is running on empty.

I don 't think I'm 'down ' or 'depressed ' as such, though it's true Ifeel frustrated and cross with myself and have been worried.

Incidentally, dh's work issues will be on back burner soon till the
End of the year and the medium term solution could include significantly more sociable work hours so....that should not concern more than normal at least soon.

My moaning would be related to the fact I am not in control of my life and have no date that I can see when I know I can plan to be free.... maybe 2012,.... maybe 2013. Free when nobody needs me, free to choose where I live, free to look at the potential of a job maybe, or to write more .... freeeeeeeeeeeee. To have my things around me (out of storage and laid out so they can be accessed), to be able to be organised, to make plans, to put things in my diary. Freeeeeeeeeee. Freeeeeeeeeeeeeedddoooom.

Even if all I do is sit on my 4se in my PJs for 6 months, to be freeeeeeeeeeeeee to do that.
