Thanks for the garage comments, we of course added on a double sized garage with the intention of keeping one car in it with an electric door so it was not too much hassle to use it.
Yesterday the skip finally went so we coud use the garage, drove the car in and found that the tiles we had stored in there (intended for the garage floor when we have the time/money) stopped the car going in far enough for the door to closeI think....0 -
I've never had a garage......I don't even have off road parking! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Old house had a car port that housed the car. This house has an integral garage, full of stuff. Given that we never had a garage before this stuff must have been accumulated in the last few years!
Our loft space is empty since we put down loft insulation so thick you can't see where the joists are to balance boxes on.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Went to see 'The Iron Lady' last night. As much of an insight into Alzheimer's / dementia as a reflection on the Thatcher years. I thought it was good, friends thought it was long and slow to get going.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Off road parking is a big plus, as is an in- out drive. I would value an in-out drive more highly than a garage.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We are putting a garage in, possibly with guest rooms or a studio above. ATM I have so etching I use as a car port, or I could get out of car, open gate, and put car in a barn. Invariably the car port wins......so garage will essentially be able to be used as bay parking I think.0

LIR we are really worried about you. What was it that let you get better before? Could it be the stress with FIR that is causing the problems now? Would there be a chance for the two of you to have a decent length away from it all break?
It could be stress, I suppose. It could be that and the weather. We have both been really worried. Dh had 12 seasonal days off, that's very long in this household! But no, no chance to get away now. I'm not up to travelling, not sure how I'll cope in London two consecutive days even. One day alone is going to be a push:o
It's ok, please don't worry. No more pain or anything, just shorter waking hours and less energy. I'm going to ask Dh to get the juicer out of the cupboard for me at the weekend and try boosting life with some veg juices and maybe buy some shell fish for an iodine hit.
The single biggest help before we're amphetamines, I only had them a short time but they let me feel really incredibly normal, I built a lot of physical strength during that time but also, the big get better was time, sleep, and the indescribable freedom of being able to communicate.
I'm up this morning, going to try to stay awake all day instead of sleeping again this morning. It might be I just need to get a grip.
I don't want anyone to worry, it means I can't in good conscience whine.:D

Putting a wet car into a garage isn't good for it; the higher temperatures and slow change of air just speeds up the corrosion processes.
We may put an outbuilding next to our house here for all the carp we require for the day to day running of the place + an outside bog and somewhere to wash dirty vegetables etc. That's likely to be designed as a 'garage' in appearance. It may even have a garage door, but it will never be used as one while we're here.
Remember, we live in a place where rain actually helps the car stay a bit cleaner! :rotfl:0 -

Ours is too low. Even at its highest setting I still get backache after ironing one shirt. I hate non iron shirts, but I have got one for Monday mornings as I can never be bothered to iron anything on Sunday.0 -
