Have any of the Hertfordshire NPs been to the Snowcentre in Hemel Hempstead?

No, but I know a lot of people who have. They have all enjoyed it but found it a bit expensive. I've also driven past it many times and it is always busy. Personally I don't ski, I know that I am sufficiently uncoordinated that I'd break both my legs if I went there. I'm also told it has a nice cafe that does good hot chocolate, so maybe I should stop by to try that. The Hemel one is on a natural slope. I'm not sure how big it is compared to MK, I suspect smaller, but I don't know how much of the MK building is the slope build up.

When it actually does snow in Hemel, people go skiing, snowboarding and sledging on Kings Field, its only a short slope, but its very steep and unlike the other favourite local place for sledding and skiing (just off the road to Bovingdon by the golf course) doesn't involve stopping before skidding onto the road.

The other place that is popular with da kids in Hemel is XC, which is the new extreme sports centre. DH and I have looked at doing one of the climbing or caving courses there.

I stand by what I said earlier. Two decades ago, half of Europe was "out of bounds" to us travellers - a parallel world that gave us Bata shoes and "The Singing Ringing Tree" and about as easy to visit as the moon!

I remember returning home from Greece on a flight once when our plane had to make an emergency landing in what would now be Croatia and was then Yugoslavia. It was indeed a strange place behind the curtain, but we weren't allowed to see it as we weren't allowed off the plane. We had to sit on it, wait for it to be sorted and then take off again. I was a nervous flyer then and absolutely petrified.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go with dh to Milan again next month. Its underrated as a city IMO, and nice to see friends but probably wouldn't on this trip -valentine's day-also a good reason to go. But I'm a bit crook and these short fast trips absolutely knacker me out for a week or two afterwards. I'm ashamed to admit my travel bag from going to Brussels a couple of months ago, a few months really, is still out and has stuff in it. I found a t shirt I,ve been missing in there on Friday!

Here's a question for you lir. Is there a way of making it more about visiting DH and less about going to Milan? In other words, could you make your trip long enough to have some down time, recovering in his flat and pottering about, rather than feeling compelled to get up and about seeing things? Sometimes these issues are about find the formula that make going there work for you. That involves you being realistic about what you can and can't achieve without knackering yourself, and DH realising this and not trying to rush you from a to b to c because he's so thrilled to have you there.

DS's rent is a little under £110 per week (based on 52 weeks) and it's only a small room. It's approaching time to start looking around for next year.

Manchester student rents average £70 a week with July and August at half rates. He's in the wrong place!

I have a friend whose husband travels a lot for business, often at short notice. She now keeps a small case packed with everything she may need including a complete second set of make-up and toiletries.

Only a page ago we were talking about skiing and other adrenaline sports. Just saw this clip on the news:

    http://www.key103.co.uk/news/uk-and-world/20120108-onlookers-horror-as-bungee-cord-breaks/

Nothing like your bungee cord breaking and having to swim through crocodile infested rapids with your feet tied together to get the adrenaline flowing.

It's usually a family member. Murders are, on average, easier to solve than most crimes.

Poirot would have a real problem with 'Some tea leaf broke in and stole the hi-fi". It comes down to the number of people with a motive.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

A friend went dry slope ski-ing in preparation for his holiday, took a tumble and broke his thumb. Had to cancel the holiday.

One for Gen and other cricketing fans.

Probably the best catch I've ever seen.
