Def posh, but also def a name invented by a man. A woman would never call a techie device an iPad.

True, if my worse half is anything to go by techie items named by girls would be called things like "the square thing wot you can watch films and surf the Internet on, wotsitcalled?".

The other day she said "what's that thing called that you use to talk to someone through, not a computer, the other thing?". Not even blonde either!

    They load fine for me.

On the subject of moles etc. in Australia, and how seriously they're taken I read somewhere that each year each resident has a 1% chance of developing skin cancer.

This sounded very high to me but i just looked it up and found something suggesting 450,000 people a year are treated for skin cancer in australia every year - which is more like 2% of the population.

That is massive and explains why the Aussies are so diligent about dressing their kids up in the stupidest hats ever seen, covering with factor 10,000 and then locking them indoors. At the mcg last year at the cricket there was some 7 or 8 year old kid in the middle of the barmy army with his short off and no hat on and that attracted some proper abuse from the Aussies in the crowd (all 6 of them as it was after lunch on the second day and most of them had given up and gone home by then).

I've never been anywhere. Travelling alone is expensive and I'd be vulnerable (in the idiot/clueless sense). There's no joy to be had eating alone, wandering round alone, then coming home alone to an empty house. So, I've never had a desire to travel as I've no idea what I'm missing.

I cant stand going travelling on my own. The only reason I go anywhere on my own is to see friends who have moved away.

What I also really dislike is people who come up to you on holiday and tr to make friends with you.

No, go away, I came here to sit on the beach, read books all day, eat three portions of dessert at dinner and then drink stupid cocktails and play cards with the mrs. I did not come here to make friends with some northerners who flew from Manchester and paid 30% less.

Anyone watch Homes Under the Hammer this week?

DS's student landlords were featured http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0196xck/Homes_Under_the_Hammer_Series_14_Episode_163I (It must be a requirement that couples walk romantically up to their new purchase hand in hand.)

Anyway moving on, Ronnie obviously wasn't happy with the rental value suggested by the EAs... and he knows what he can achieve! Obviously, this project kept them so occupied they couldn't get all their other lets properly ready for the new term. But to be fair they do respond reasonably to complaints.

They are said to be in the top five of student landlords for the area. Hmmm, I wonder what the others are like.

I used to be something of an expert on Canterbury, when my DD went there 10 years ago. £75+ per week now (?!?). This for a room in a house on the noisy Sturry road.
    She went here http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/events/public-lectures/finding-north-holmes-road.asp

Five of them had a bedroom each in somewhere like this

    Which seems a lot cheaper

I seem to remember that the whole property was less than £300 per week, but that was "grapevine" prices without an agent creaming off a cut. ?

I could not quite follow how "Ronnie" and his "apprentice" had raised the ceiling in the cellar

I looked at the prices for a Snowcentre once.... it was unclear but looked like you'd need lessons before you could go on it ... and it seemed like it'd cost hundreds to get kitted out, in, taught etc before you could then be able to spend a fortune to go down a slope a few times.

i went to the one at milton keynes a couple of times last year, that was ok, think it was about £60 for a 3 hour lesson there which is not too bad really. the beginner lesson was awful as there were about 20 people on it and only one instructor, but the intermediate lesson i did after that was much better as only 3 people. you don't have to pay for the equipment, its included in the price. i think the hemel one must be new as didn't notice it when i was looking for somewhere. it's about 50% more expensive, but its much closer and more convenient.

you could go on there and just start skiing without having any lessons but they would kick you out pretty quickly as you probably wouldn't even be able to get up the lift to the top of the slope if you'd never done it before. to be honest it's only worth doing it as practice for actually going skiing, it's pretty boring skiing down the same small hill over and over again. i don't think i'd go there for fun, i just want to brush up prior to going skiing at the end of the month.

Is there one in Hemel? I've been to the one in MK, but Hemel is miles closer (literally).

Youngest son was talking about going to MK tomorrow, so thanks for the info. http://www.thesnowcentre.com/
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
