why you came back?
Failed attempt to save marriage #1
Went back in summer 1990 for 6 months. I was on a H1-B visa which can easily be converted into Permanent residency by filing an I-129, but the Bank needed/wanted be back in London, then I met HID and started marriage #2 and got greedy and took another job at a non US Bank for a lot more money so the chance wasn't there.
Of course we did eventually move to FL in 1997 for 5 years or so, but that's a whole different story.
We were watching some old vids from our time there last week. We took the boys to NYC in 2001 for a weekend, we actually have a video of us all on the top of the south tower of the WTC taken on 2nd September 2011.
I forgot how American my sons used to sound 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

I can't imagine you happy for long with someone rude and selfish.
You should have said, "no dear, but I'll give you directions to the loony bin, they'll help you work it out"....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
You tell'im lir
Besides, she hasn't got gorgeous curly locks like you
BS looks good these days and always reminds me of a very close friend who is hot! :A
BS?
Not every one likes curly hairBut dh does, and tbh, thats all that matters to me.
(he still doesn't love the brunette thing though)

I think the dear woman at the till of what used to be Hampstead food halls sai to her, ''Um, don't you know who lir is?'':D The staff at HFH were always really lovely. After a fortnight living in NW3 they felt like old friends. I think the same staff stayed when it became a tesco IIRC?0 -

Tell me more...
lj, If you're after some Xmas reading, judging by your taste so far might I reccommend
William Poundstone’s “The Labyrinths of Reason” – as you enjoyed “The Mind’s I” you might find this to be excellent brain candy.e.g. How to tell you’re not dreaming? Keep opening a book of limericks at different pages!
This is out-of-print but if you don't mind second-hand it's on Amazon here
Stanislaw Lem’s Mortal Engines (if you liked The Cyberiad this is a good follow-on).
Actually I'd recommend them to any NP, especially the Lem stuff.
I've read both of them and could rave on about them but I'll stop now. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
That's what I love/loved about the place.
Landing at JFK and seeing the skyline in the distance (sadly lacking 2 icons today)
I have only visited, but I had such a bad experience at JFK that I tried Newark next time, which was much better
Sunday morning in Battery Park.
Catching the Staten Island ferry and laughing at the tourists who have paid a fortune to see the same view from a different boat.
Did both of those. We were even saluted by the fire boat in the harbour testing all its jets at once.
I live in London, and I thought I would hate NYC just as much as I dislike central London (sorry NDG!), but we actually loved it. The hotels are grotty and over-priced, but there's loads going on.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I wouldn't be after long term happiness with her lir. Short term satisfaction would suffice!;)
Such a story will always take the shine off...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
if we are oing book recommendations, I recently suggested The end of Mr Y to dh (slowest reader in the world and reads mulitple books at a time) and he's really enjoyed it.
I haven't been to the library for a while, I might try and go tomorrow. I tried the kindle thing in tesco and couldn't make it do anything.0
