'Go for it!' I say.
(Plus the more nice people make a sucess of things the more chance that one of them might be able to find me a job)
yeah, but think how much I'll be whinging on here when it comes to the time I have to sell someone who we all know I'll fall deeply in love with. Its not going to be good for anyone suffereing the fall out.
Michaels...any improvment at work? Hoiw are the arrnagments working out for your employers...any prospect of getting another day....there ...or elsewhere?0 -
I too would describe myself as neither girly nor a tomboy. I have a whacking great big moustache at the moment (I'm doing Movember) so I would guess the latter is closest.
33C here today and pretty humid. The stupid online weather had Sydney maximum: 31C, currently: 33C fro the middle part of today!
We had the mango shipment come down from QLD in Friday. 4 boxes this year to share amongst various NSW rellies which is much better than the 10 we got in total (between about 30 people) last year. I noshed down 2 at a barbie yesterday under the pretence of offering them around and I'm currently making mango sorbet to take to work as I type. A few more minutes in the ice cream maker and it will be ready to put in the freezer.0 -
I didn't really think much about gender when I was a child - obviously I knew I was a girl, and so forth. One of the advantages of going to a girls' school is that there aren't any boys' or girls' toys, books, academic subjects, sports, etc. There are just toys, books, subjects and sports.
My parents didn't treat us differently by gender, either. They treated us differently according to our interests, but we all learned to cook / knit / change plugs / put up a shelf / change a tyre.
When I was little I never got those jokes and woman being crap at DIY. They didn't make sense to me.
In our household, my Mama cooked, made clothes, brewed beer, changed plugs, put up bookshelves and did all the useful things. My darling Dad would starve in the wild. He couldn't change a plug to save his life....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I am not in any way a pet/animal person so I guess the only thing I can relate to is my kids getting more independence which is already hard sometimes, still no doubt when they turn in to moody teenagers I will be wishing that the time for them to move on would hurry up...
Work is busier than it was 6 months ago and the company now has half the staff it had 2 years ago so fewer people are on reduced hours but the volume of opportunities for new work has dropped off again in the last few months (the phone rarely rings, not even marketing calls!). Plus the peope who are on contract, some are leaving and it is extremely difficult to get companies to accept replacements in such cirumstances as they see it as an opportunity to cut costs and otherwise we rely on a few big contracts that could end with a months notice should budgets come under pressure.
I am currently delivering a report which means I have been working more days but I will just use these to take most of December off to paint the house. I am also in the weird position of not really wanting to earn any extra money until April next year cos of the effective marginal tax rate of 72% so if more work did come up I might have to divert any extra income to my pension (in fact if I was looking certain to earn a lot more next year I would probably be best off diverting most of the rest of my income until next April in to my pension).
Having worked part time I am also not that keen on the idea of going back to 5(+) long days a week but financially there is not a huge difference between working 1, 2 or 3 days a week cos of the tax thing, so would really need to work at least 4 days a week to have enough money to live on, especially if interest rates go back up. However if the child benefit higher tax rate thing does come in there would be a strong incentive to keep my salary below the higher rate threshold.
Youngest DS will start nursery 3 hours/day after Easter and reception at school in September 2013 and DW wants to return to work at least part time so I guess my ideal would be for me to do 3/4 days a week and DW a couple. We will never be rich working those sort of hours but hopefully quality of life will be good.
Our builder reckons we should use our house equity to be serial movers/extenders and their definitely does seem to be good money in that but obviously at the cost of living through the moves and disruption and being at risk of a housing market correction.lostinrates wrote: »yeah, but think how much I'll be whinging on here when it comes to the time I have to sell someone who we all know I'll fall deeply in love with. I'm not very girly either. Yesterday, I spent 5 hours digging a pit over a metre deep, so if I'd had any fingernails I'd probably have broken them.

The good news is that the foundations look reasonable. The bad news is that the bungalow has had a couple of extensions affecting the external walls, so I have to dig four of these pits.
One to go....It's the most recent wall, so theoretically it should be good, but I know the twonks that did it.....:eek:0 -

How big is the pit you've dug? Was it just to look at the foundations, or something else?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
