I think that red would become rather tiresome. In fact, so would the straight layout, and the lack of isolation of the cooking smells, and the inability to separate small children from hot pans, and .... Apart from that it's lovely.
I'd positively loathe being smacked in the face by red every morning when I put the kettle on. Not a good start to my day (-:
The layout there is terrible, i think. The kitchen is essentially a corridor to the living room, and having the units all on one side doesn't seem very efficient for cooking, to me....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I like the layout of that one, apart from the sink on the island (I'd rather have it elsewhere, personally)...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

that picture was taken before we moved in. the stools are gone and we've nicely cluttered the island up by sticking a fishtank on it so there is basically no space at all now.0 -
Thanks PN - sorry to waste your time on the other place. Still can't post, must be me (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

no, that's our actual kitchen. i hate it, would never buy anywhere like that. for starters, who wants to have the washing machine and kettle in the same room as the TV!
it is poncey, but the compromise is that it is tiny!0 -

we're trying to make these decisions npow, for services to be pu in next year when that side is done (we'll come back and put in the finished kitchen at the end but need to know where we want stuff now.)
If I have an island it will face any one we have for a casual kitchen lunch.....I don't want to clutter it up with dishes. BUT, the other place would be infront of a window. With a dish washer I don;t really intend to spent hours at a window washing up, I think I'd rather have that space as work top space to use when rolling stuff out etc. ALSO, sinks in front of windows splash back, and the neches are deeper, so its quite hard to clean the windows really well each time.
I have got the cooker faceing the back wall under a lintel, (I bought a cooker last year) but maybe that is the wrong plan and I should get a built in cooker and a hob on the island and the sink on the back wall where there are no windows? If I didn't have the cooker there though, wall to wall cabinetry would look smashing...its the only wall with no windows/doors/features.
I went to kitchen design place in a fitted kitchen space but felt a bit disappointed and more confused. I think I might try another kitchen place and see if they say the same sorts of things. (although ultimately the kitchen will not be a fitted kitchen). I want some non standard things too, to make life easier.
The house thing is a BIT like a wedding...no one else cares that much and its very easy to get prescious about it. At least it lasts longer than a single day though afterwards.0 -

You forget that I am living below the poverty line.
I can't decide whether the kitchen (when we finally get it done) should be a U or a side opposite an island (U with no end) but either way there will be a bit with probably the hob and sink on it with bar stools on the other side - however there will not be a single level worktop - the barstool side will be higher than the worktop side if that makes sense. How many times......?
They're all posh on here, apart from you, me and Sue......:(I think....0 -
i'd go for a kitchen with no worktop along the walls, but a carcophany of islands, arranged as an artistic representation of giant's causeway.
you know it makes sense. let us know how it turns out!0
