I am sitting in the biggest room I've ever rented/owned (14'x16') and I measured it to see how big it is just so I could tell you ... and CH is included (for 5 hours/evening) so I am warm and toasty for the first time ever - never lived anywhere where I/we could afford to heat more than the main room for more than the absolute essential so spent most of the winters in my life buried under a duvet on a sofa unable to do anything :)

It's a bit like being posh and well off like you lot ... except it's a short lease :)

Total size of my entire new domain is 16'x22'. Tiny en-suite though (no heating in there).

Sounds lovely! Hope you enjoy it. How long is your contract?

I dunno. I should ask my family memeber who are american. I know the US to europe postings are pretty popular in firm...but then mostly the people taking them are interested in culture etc...but their salaries ar ehigher anyway in firm I think. I'll check...its meant to be the same firm wide but cost of living etc included...the argument has always been US lawyers have significant debt above that of european counter parts so need bigger salaries...IIRC. I might not. :)

I bet the Americans are all paid in some weird way, to keep a % of their earnings offshore (from the uk) so they only have to pay uk tax on what they need to pay their living costs. Certain US law firms pay even their british staff (as opposed to us staff on secondment to uk) like that.

Sorry, just had a little smile on another thread where someone was described as 'reaping what they sew' and just thought what a brilliant moto this would make for FC :)

why thank-you Michaels :) Sadly I am currently reaping far more hassle and stress than I am comfortable with right now so OH and I are pulling in the reins for a while to take stock. I am struggling with the more 'corp' dealings and how things are done in that world.
We may have to choose a slightly different direction to follow shortly and I can see ourselves retreating back into 'Bottom of The Pond - Land' as it has more soul......for a while at least.

My talent (so I am told) is that I can identify all chocolates in quality street/roses etc by sight alone, without reference to the instructions that come with these tins.

I have been tested, & passed every time.:o

Great idea for a post party game.....half a mark for correctly describing what it is (everyone knows the purple one is a nut with gooey toffee but the official QS name?.. no idea) and a full mark for the correct name on the slip in the tin.

    That's made my day:rotfl:.

Has anyone had trick or treaters round? I bought a bowl of sweets and not a single knock on the door. At this rate they'll end up on my lap to munch through watching telly tonight. Not good:eek:.
We had about 6 or 7 last year but nothing this one....zilch. Weather is mild and dry too...strange.

Ooooo PN you have moved? Congrats and enjoy. Is it nearby to 'home'? I am a bit out of the loop with your news as I still haven't managed to trawl back far enough and catch up....how is everything?

Last year I had one caller, so this year I bought one bag of fun-size chocs as a precaution.

I've had 8 lots of trick or treaters! Some were little and sweet, with adults at the end of the drive. Some were far too old to trick and treating (and grabbed too many chocs from the bag). One lot consisted of 2 teenage girls who had got the wrong idea of dressing up - or at least had used outfits intended for vicars and tarts parties rather than halloween - more in need of adult supervisors at the end of the drive than the little ones!

I don't think I've had and trick or treaters since 2000, certainly can't remember any off the top of my head- the joy of living in London!

The last time, I was in the middle of cooking and hadn't even clicked that it was Halloween. I answered the door holding a 12 inch chefs knife which I had absent mindedly failed to put down.

Worked a treat! (no pun intended)

It's Melbourne Cup day today. The sun is shining and there are loads of girls out in the city with their high heels and posh frocks.

There are huge queues outside the banks. Half the city will be drunk by 4pm. I love today. :-)

Tsk tsk ... the MSE way is to buy NO sweets and to turn the lights out for 3-4 hours and sit in the dark until they've all gone home. :)

In my former life I used to be a target for literally dozens of little Trick or Treaters on Halloween......until I learned to park the van very badly across the entrance to the driveway and exit via the passenger door. :D

On a more serious note, years ago I found myself scarily close both in time and location to the Bath (Batman) rapist, who struck on Halloween. Reporting my car to the police for elimination, I was asked, "Did you see anyone acting unusually or suspiciously?" When I replied that about half the population of Bath were doing that, the officer sighed and admitted that the city police hated the whole Halloween thing.

I had to go out with middle son....with his aspergers, emotionally he is more like a young 12 year old rather than a 15 year old and he gets immense joy from doing trick or treating.

Youngest didn't want to do it and was quite happy to push me around in the wheelchair.

My parents were a little peeved, they had got themselves all ready for the trick and treaters, had a huge bowl of sweets to give out but people were walking straight past...I heard one of them say "Oh, we can't go there, elderly people live there". We sent one lot to their door which pleased my dad as he loves seeing the kids all dressed up.

They have decided that next year they are going to put something out to show they are getting involved in Halloween.....they may be getting on but they certainly don't see themselves as the elderly people on the street.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Bad form to quote yourself but I don't care.

A bunch of us went out for lunch from work a few weeks ago. We testicled up the bill and ended up with $20 too much.

Good sense prevailed and we put it on France, Australia and NZ to go through to the semis in the RWC. Obviously that went pretty well.

A bit was shaved off for an ill-advised punt on a mixture of EPL, horses etc so we decided to save the remaining $85 for a punt on the Cup today and we had a winner! A friend of a friend is a bookie and suggested a complicated 650-way bet. That landed us about $600 from our $85 stake.

Now the question is do we punt on or go for another lunch...?

The children next door are home-taught, and I've written about them before. They're the only real 'kids' for about a mile in either direction.

Last night, we were the only people they could trick or treat. They told us, "The people in the barn conversions are too grumpy!"

Sadly, I have to agree, that was a fairly accurate assessment. :(
