Coming into a job where I am at least treated respectfully by most colleagues, with significantly reduced stress, and much more ability to manage my own time, coupled with the fact that I don't have some of the stresses I did have, & finish work at a reasonable hour, giving me loads of personal time (to do the important stuff) means that the £2k can go jump - it is definitely a price worth paying...

I think , tbh, DH's hours are going to be pants whereever he goes, its the nature of the work. And we're not going to get any more time together. Money is....important...but not the overriding factor. For a financial move he'd be looking at a significant figure to make it worthwhile on a financial score I think. The work will be much the same, the cultures maybe a bit different...but eggs is eggs, whether poached, scrambled or fried.

I think the thing that worries me is that these bullies get every where. They just do. And he could go through all the stress of changing (change is stressful) and find there to be another bully and no decent for CV way out. In my mind, for me, not for dh who must make his own decisions, a lateral move should offer something to make it feel good.

Should I be expected to know them any better?

In town, maybe not, but in the country, definitely. :)

People arrive where we live now and receive a 'welcome pack,' distributed by members of the WI. This tells them all they need to know about events, transport clubs etc. Then, they are personally invited to attend a couple of things. If that elicits no response, folks are left in peace.

'Peace' is all very well until something happens. Only last night, we had to ring ahead to ask someone to lock the hens up, as we were not going to reach home until 9pm at the earliest. The week before, we had the only still day in ages, suitable for putting a 20 x 13m polytunnel cover on, so we had a quick ring around to get a scratch team together for that....and so on.

Nevertheless, a good few of our neighbours choose 'peace.' :(

All the same, since the crows began attacking their refuse sacks, scattering their documents & stuff down the road, we've learned a little bit about a couple of our 'quieter' neighbours! :rotfl:

Agree with all of this, especially the 2nd para.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

    Nothing 'juicy,' but things like:

"Dear Mr Twonk, I must immediately draw your attention to the fact that your overdraft limit of 2k has been exceeded by £546 ...."

Not stuff I'd bin without shredding!
  • Dave, my peppers are coming along, suprisingly!
Do you generally get one pepper per plant, or will more appear?
Also, they're all green at the mo. Will they change colour? Or will I have lots of green peppers?

I'm hoping the sunshine does em some good...

I had about two dozen red ones on one plant. He was a triumph:D

I'm going to harvest the rest of the aubergines this week and make and freeze parmigiana with them.

Had an e-mail this morning from MCS Technology. They are offering special pricing at the moment on Dell laptop batteries. I seem to remember a while back that a few people were considering getting these or new power supplies.

I haven't compared the prices elsewhere, but thought I'd post a link in case anyone is still looking:

I've used them before for Dell parts and they were ok.

The early F1 peppers produced about three small peppers per plant & now seem to have run out of steam, so not worth it really. :(

The more traditional ones usually produce 6-7 larger peppers that ripen to red and maybe a few more that I take green. :)

With a conservatory to bring 'em into, it's not usually over till around Christmas. :D

OK our kids are grown-up and we don't actually live in Winkleigh, but it's one of our local villages where we shop, get the car serviced, see the vet etc.

Also the home of Winkleigh pies, from the mad butcher, who makes 'em cheaper than we can. :)
