Of interest for any other space junkies, or people who seek to debunk conspiracy theories...
I'm not really here, honest, just thought I'd log on for a bit while doing the weekly wash.
Gen hope I haven't missed you for good (for now). Works in theory, but after the "get married" bit along come kids. There is nothing as expensive as kids.
This is true - financially having kids is like building a bonfire of banknotes in your backyard and setting it alight.
Generali I've enjoyed your posts in this and other threads (I lurk more than I post) and feel you'll be sorely missed by many. May it all go well for you. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Seems like the key is to get married, live frugally off one partners income, and save all the money from the other. Plus, work hard, and do plenty of overtime.
Personally, I prefer a nice get rich quick scheme, this sounds like a get rich slow scheme.
Yeah ... get rich slow. Where are the get rich quick things? We should brainstorm0 -

I miss doing stuff. Tonight I....vacuumd some make up I spilt on the floor this morning (even ill I ut a faceon for the horses to sniff.). I have also been strong armed by my neighbours into the harvest supper.....we get to sit at the ''high table'' being the newest ''farmers'' in the village:rotfl:
They'll be doing baskets for church atm I suppose (um, now? where in the year are we...its otober outside certainly!)I haven't got involved in the church in this vilage at all, it sucked time where I was and TBH this community is ''the wrong size'' fr me, too big to feel ''required'' and to small to feel inconspicuous.
All I have for harvest festival is some eggs and a few marrows!0 -

Cold turkey.
The plan is to make a bunch of money as an employee and then 'retire' into a completely different industry working for myself. Unfortunately I'm not a trader so I can't genuinely set myself up for life however if I ramp things up a bit we should be able to live off my income and save all of Mrs G's income once she starts working. In 5-6 years we'd have about $500,000, conservatively. That's enough to move to where we want to be, buy a decent house for cash and give me substantial capital to start a business.PasturesNew wrote: »Ah ... the catch ... have to find somebody willing to put up with you, then endure their annoying habits for X years.

Good luck with The Plan Gen.......pop by now and again though to give an update...you'll be missed. I know what you mean about here absorbing brain/thinking time though.....I do 'rations' now
Hope everyone is well...I have been trying to log in and catch up as much as poss.
Had a lovely holiday in Portugal with lots of small children for a week and returned to a mountainous worlkload.
Getting rich quick is rare from my experience and those I know who have done it seemed then to have 'lost' a lot of it soon afterwards. These would be self employed aquaintances though. Highly paid PAYE in safe-ish jobs seem to be the most comfortable amongst people I have known.
The ones who seem to have made 'it' and hung on to it took many years slogging away. Really hoping to fall into that category myself one day if we can take the heat. We have lost the stomach for big risk though and are really wary so may not happen for us because of that.
I have now read all of Paul Towdrys books and really recommend them...........another reason for not popping in.:o
We start planning the house renovation this week as everything needs doing....but we will pace it. Came to a head recently when a lump of window sill fell off as it had rotted away...ooops. Gives me an excuse to hang out on house prices board. The DIY one doesn't seem very friendly but maybe half an hour pottering on it wasn't enough to judge it by.
Really wanting air source heating system but think it will be way out of our budget.
Hope PN is OK too given current events....0 -
Wouldn't believe this if I hadn't seen the letters. Mother gets caught speeding 36 in a 30. Much teasing as we all think she drives fast. So she writes a letter asking to be excused as Dad had just been diagnosed with C, she didn't want to leave him alone for long.....and gave the numbers of the doctors if they wanted to verify. We all tell her she has no chance and will end up on a speed awareness course......they let her off, decided not to take further action.
"not in the public interest to prosecute". OH got nabbed by a speed camera going very, very fast indeed on the M4 at 4am, nearly double the speed limit. But when I wrote to them (the car's in my name) enclosing a copy of his father's death certificate dated an hour after the speed camera, they dropped that too....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
