    That's a very good idea.

My fridge freezer went bang in january and we'd only had it thirteen months so I looked into how long white goods last.
Most of the advice on the web was that even cheap brands of kitchen equipment are so reliable they would be lasting for 5-10 years and upmarket brands (which Bosch most certainly is) would be more- heard people on threads here talk about 15+ years for washing machines ( but don't know if they needed some work on them during that time).

wow. I thought things were built to last five years now? Bar the top brands?

This is what I'd replace it with in an ideal world...but coin operated....so I could leave it out in a farm building and know people couldn't randomly use it for HUGE loads of washing!

We have decided to get a tumble dryer too:eek::eek: Only ever had access to one in one flat, and never felt I needed one, but cheap tumble driers are cheaper than heating for the house, so even if it lasts one winter it will be ok. Going for cheapness with this one, not longevity.

Now I need to make a decision about the fridge..(now as in before spring). Corner fridge or not.......its not that easy to decide......corner usuage as NDG's mama has and looks tidy and capacious for the fronbt space used or the bigger thing thats less roomy with water and ice that dh wants.....

Lir, why would you need coin op? Even if left in an outbuilding, it can't work if you control the mains electric from elsewhere and switch it off at, say a fusebox.

Because I might let other people use it....but don't want them to run up a bill for me....so if its coin op and I get the urunning costs back via that I'll be happy. :) I'll probably only use it once a week. I could even do all my neighbours' pony rugs at 50p profit a time and then I'd be very happy. :)

If cheapness is all have you checked freecycle? I'm at the corner of three areas so I hear lots of offers.

We even get big American walk-in fridge-freezers offered quite regularly. It'd be the collection would cost big-time!
If buying a fridge freezer be careful of the hotpoint 4-door ff4dk. It has electrical issues as I found out the the hard way

wow....I'll check. I could probably borrow a cattle trailer to collect in if they'd let us collect it at a weekend. A dryer I could fit in the car I think.

I know I can live without a fridge...I've done it before, and in winter its not hard.....but still, nicer to have one. Current fridge has a bottom shelf still, so not an impossibility to cope at all. (dh wants to get a wine rack for it and turn it into a ''wine fridge''.)

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

How do I get that pic to appear smaller (and less grainy)?

very sweet Lydiaj. I think your daughter will make a very excellent pet owner :) she's very enthusiastic and caring. While its not a good idea to drop animals....like children..they bounce surprisingly often. :)

Today we've resealed the woodburner door. Never done that before ever....hoping it might improve the woodburners performance and economy....if its worked. Not sure we've done it very well. We ran out of glue from the pot the man said would be more than enough......
