    I've had a tough 2 weeks, not mentioned it here... but it's now confirmed I am managing an end of life situation. The M nurse will be arriving tomorrow/Friday to sort out care etc, attendance allowance will be sorted (terminal/automatic) and I guess I'm going to be quite busy with the various/changing needs around me ... until. And I don't know when until is... until. But it's probably not this month, but I don't think Xmas plans will be needed.

    PN, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope at least that confirmation of what's happening helps, rather than the uncertainty you were enduring before.

    <hugs>

    Don't worry - I only ever get to read if I am working somewhere with a train commute or on holiday and as I have no work and can't afford a holiday that is a long time since I read anything other than the economist or the local free paper...aside from six million books about chip and biff...

    I always like lots of bright light which then works best coming from above - can't be bothered with 'mood lighting' - may be because my eyes aren't so good so no candles here either. I think we will go for the centre fitting and no wall lights nor the recessed spots as they don't provide much flexibility. A switch by the bed is useful but it does then tie down the bed position...{thinks}

    Cash is king (until you have so much you can afford a string of failures) but on the other hand make sure you are doing what you enjoy rather than doing it for the money, once the time has passed doing something you dislike you can never get it back.

    In bedrooms, the central pendant can often be in a useless place, like over the foot of the bed. Whereas you can position spotlights in strategic places. So by the cupboard doors to shine light into the cupboards and over the head area of the bed. We have 4 in the bedroom in a diamond layout. They are angled, which also helps.

    ....and moi? :D Well, after much very heated debate we made some very key decisions today after some v good news. Scary ones as they involve going 2 steps back to go 4 forward ...and I always worry that we will trip over when we do stuff like that.

    No, and no! Definitely not (-:

    Good luck for your new venture - very best of luck.

    One of biggest weaknesses is we never really have strategy / business plan going as such. Instead, we run with opportunities or deal with disasters as and when they present themselves.
    You need to work ON the business as well as IN the business. Set aside a regular day when you look at stuff and start to come up with a strategy.

    I think PN would get what I mean.....there wasn't ever a time that we sat down and said 'Hmmm, I know let's invest in X and make X into whatever'.
    Things just came along (we saw a nice shop to let and took it on for example) and we worked hard to make them as A* as we could.
    People (especially on these boards) say "you had choices, you chose .. you could have chosen better" - but that's in their world. In the real world you choose what you think today will be best/dig you out of a hole - and it's difficult to see beyond grabbing something you see available. Sometimes you have to take something on offer today, then you're too busy working on it to see other choices/chances because you can't take your eye off the main ball. This doesn't mean you 'chose', you choose what's right today and if you're firefighting (trying to earn a crust) it's almost impossible to sit back and plan future stuff as you're not sure if tomorrow the phone will ring at all.

    Just flip a coin and don't beat yourself up about it.
    You're a success.
    You've achieved more than most.
    Flip that coin now :)

    Hugs to PN. Glad you are getting some info and not feeling so surrounded by a fog of uncertainty and refusal to communicate. Trying to "be there" for both the C parent and the confused one is a hell of a burden, though. Glad you're getting some help - hope you get more of it.

    I had a meeting with my PI solicitor today. I worked really hard at getting together all the paperwork she'd asked me to bring, and typing out little statements about the issues she said she'd want to know about, so it was lovely that we got it all done in 2 hours and she said it had been much quicker because I was so well prepared and she wished all her clients were like that. :) On the down side, there are now going to be further delays for more reports and investigations, so inquest not before December at the earliest.
    Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
    Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
    Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    On a risk level....mmm...they are up there on the top guys but they feel right. Doesn't involve taking on debt (as if ?!!!) but does mean giving up a significant turnover of a sum I would be too ashamed to post.
    But I am looking for affirmation from the NP's that turnover is vanity and margin is the main man.

    You want to work harder for less profit? Really?

    Sell something for 300% profit!

    OH wore a yellow jersey cycling last weekend.....

    He did the nutters bike ride, London to Dunwich, overnight. In 8.5 hours, too - not bad for 120 miles

    That's a good time, about the time I'd aim for I reckon with training anyway.

    Any faster and food becomes a problem for me at least: you need 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per hour. For an 80kg man that would be 80g of carbs per hour which is 0.5l of Powerade (34g) and a couple of gel sachets or perhaps 4 muesli bars plus you'll need 0.5l of water per hour or 2 too. I find it hard to consume that much and keep a decent pace going.

    I've been off the bike and doing swimming instead for a while. I'm a rubbish swimmer which makes it great exercise!

    It should be a great couple of days in the Tour today and tomorrow. Absolute crackers. They'll really be hurting by the end of tomorrow.

    PN, no one can change what's happening with the olds, but it's good to know you're no longer expected to cope alone, nor so uncertain about where it will all go. :)

    Anger is a 'normal' emotion in the circumstances too, (don't I know it!) so don't feel :o when it happens.

    Just popping by again, but have to say I agree with michaels: make sure you are doing what you enjoy rather than doing it for the money, once the time has passed doing something you dislike you can never get it back.

    My main working life is just a big blur now, but the overall impression I took away was one of pleasure & fulfillment. If I'd done something financially more rewarding, things might be easier now materially, but there are no 'if only....' thoughts.

    Hope that doesn't sound smug, 'cos it's not meant to. :)
