Thanking about this I'm confident that the majority of my lecturers would remember me (I'm sure a handful wouldn't) but certainly I'd hope tutors would if the ones who simply lectured couldn';t be expected to...I lived with one for a while, and used to go round to anothers' for copious amounts of alcohol where a handful of students/lecturers and some who were crossovers of both used to appear, and sit squashed on sofas, floors, and were all made to sit in silence while the hosts favourite soap was on tv, then noisy talking resumed. DH's tutor has become a freind and hosts for students past and present a BBQ once a year. sometime's a couple turn up,. sometimes they are over run with people. My F-i-L wouldn't remember a fraction of people who he's lectured, but many of his tutees have become long standing friends, over decades and decades now.
Perhaps the mass attendance of university means these relationships are less common now too (thinking about it, we probably were the the youngest attendees bar one or two at the end to go to the drunken soap watching evenings)......and those are one of the most prescious things IMO.....a genuine opportunity to cross a few perceived barriers of age, experience, social background etc.0 -
Yesterday I ran lots of errands, because today the weather was meant to be nice for chores here. We're done the standard birds and gee-gees stuff, but the drizzle has meant we're sitting inside drinking tea and a bit sulky. Yesterday was beautiful.0

I've promised a friend in Italy who deals in wine that I will never pass up the opportunity to taste English wine to try and find some to recommend to him.
Some of the Denbies (sp?) wines are meant to be very good, aren't they, especially the not champagne. When I see Brtish wines they are really expensive for the compared to others when you've tasted them they tase ''cheaper'' than equivalent wines from elsewhere.
But, tasted three, bought two. I particularly liked a white, which is worrying as I have a bad reaction to white wine.
They are hedge cuting already round here. Depressing or what.0 -
A friend has asked me to be a referee for her application to be a magistrate.
Now the form has arrived and it asks questions about how she deals with people, how they judge other people and how they get on with people whose opinions differ from their own.

I think you have just written what you need to write. Let the appointments process decide whether or not they need more Daily Wail readers on the bench in your neck of the woods.0 -

Your reference will have a direct impact the kind of justice meted out to the people (some of whom will be guilty and others innocent) who come before the bench if and when your friend becomes a magistrate. Your responsibility is to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on the form.
Late-nearly-ex and I had this problem when a friend asked us for a reference because he wanted to be a vicar. He was an excellent bloke in many ways, but apt to be dismissive of people he considered stupid. We were honest on the form about his many good qualities, and also about our concerns. He didn't get through the selection, but I will never know to what extent our reference played a part in that. I'm still friends with him.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
