The last line of the recipe usually tells you this. It varies from 6-18 weeks depending on the proportion of vinegar used. Generally the longer you forget about it the batter it tastes when you finally eat it.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
The amazing vanishing cleaner materialised in school last night to discuss maternity leave. Apparently her friend has told her she gets a year on full salary which she doesn't have to start until the day the baby is born so she came in with a letter to say her last day of work before maternity leave will be early March. Can't help but wonder if this is the same friend who told her that if she has the baby in Ireland it gets a British passport. She still hasn't figured out that "you don't earn enough to pay NI, so you won't be eligible for maternity pay" means just that. Equally she'll be lynched by the other cleaner if she strings things out to the bitter end whilst randomly pulling sickies for no reason other than being pregnant. Whinge whinge, whine whine. OH is killing himself laughing at all of this and keeps reminding me that whilst pregnant I was too busy puking to do anything constructive and should be more sympathetic towards her. Theres being sympathetic and theres bing a doormat.
On to more cheery things..... despite not leaving the house yesterday I spent £59. £57 on coal, £1 on snacks for DD1 having forgotten to buy any crisps or suitable snacks for school and a further £1 for non-uniform day. Total money rocketing out of my bank account to date £557. The likelihood of making it to Decmber 1st having spent £800 is somewhat slim.
Did manage to knit another couple of inches of sock despite walking in to a bloodbath. DD1 attempted to extract her wobbly tooth but failed miserably resulting is a blood smeared snotty teary child. Ended up packing her gums with frozen chips to calm her down enough to slap bongela on them. Did the trick though. Half an hour later she'd scoffed a giant bowl of porridge and was hunting through the cupboards for more.
OHs hand is still bleeding on and off. Fortunately the hydrocolloid dressing is restricting his movement so this isn't as major a problem as it seems. Because you can see through the dressing to the wound you can keep an eye on it without interfering with the healing. Also means v. squeamish people go a bit green when they see it or, as in the case of OHs boss, they faint. Seems he doesn't like the sight of blood. Tis an added bonus that the chap in question is also the office first aider.
Plans for today include a second attempt at degrotting the bathrooms sice I managed to avoid this yesterday. Did get to the bottom of the laundry basket though and the botom of the ironing pile and I even unearthed the vast majority of the worksufaces in the kitchen. Will be popping to a friends for a quick chat and a cuppa first though.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Words fail me to be honest about the cleaner.

Sorry to hear that your HEADMASTER is being such a door mat over this cleaner. What happens if she slips at work and the sues the school b ecause they didn't do a risk assessment. There are loads of ways of ensuring that she starts her mat leave now unpaid....
Sorry to hear about OH hand, sounds nasty. Any news about Finland? I was thinking that Finland would be the perfect time for many man bits of carp to disappear from the house.....:D:D
I had to laugh about anyone expressing an iron to them. I brought out my ironing board from the UK 3 years ago, and it is STILL in the wrapping the movers put it in. I don't iron ANYTHING at all! But then DS's uniform is non crinkle, and OH works in IT so pretty much anything goes clothes wise over here. I don't iron I fold!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

and so the cleaner finally showed up to work. Her first request of the day was that she be allowed to leave 15 minutes early in order to catch her bus. Quite why after eight months she suddenly needed to leave early yeastereday is a bit of a mystery however I agreed but told her she'd need to come in 15 minutes early the following day to make the time up ... 30 minutes early if she wanted to leave at that time again. Had enough of being nice.
Got a letter from the RAC informing me that tis years revewal of £126 was due. One phonecall later I had the poor chap on the end of the phone very confused. Obviously its not normal to pay in August for December and then to pay again in January for the following December but thats precisely what I did to take advantage of the clubcard 4x promotion before it ended. Turns out their computer system couldn't cope with that and they bunged a note on file to phone me but never did. They've very generously credited my account with payment which is ever so nice of them considering I paid early in the first place. Means I have £70 of clubcard vouchers and no clear plans for them. Will have to investigate the deals brochure to see what exciting things I can come up with.
Pootled about and got more bits done but not really anything constructive apart from vacuuming upstairs which was pointless becasue the hound from hell spent the afternoon transforming a log into matchsticks. Need to do much cleaning today in readiness for the arrival of granny on Sunday.
Meanwhile OHs trip to Finland is still up in the air. Theres a problem with corporate sponsorship for site visas. Until this is sorted they can't access the site to do any work and the company they're out there to work for won't provide visas. Its all a bit of a mess. Hes booked a fair bit of holiday over the next month so its highly unlikely he'll end up going at all.
Enough of the doom and gloom for I have reached the heel of the sock. Plan to attempt this in peace today in the hopes of getting this one right. Am getting ahead of myself and contemplating this. Am clearly losing the plot.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

That's the danger of socks - they're a gateway knit to all sorts of maniac ideas! The shawl is very pretty though!
