Tis a most glorious day in the big world outside. Chooks are out playing in the sunshine along with DD2 and the dog. Eggs are showing no signs of hatching although mummy chicken is getting v. aggressive so it shouldn't be too long now.

Have parcelled up the next mobile phone to send off to Fonebank having had an e-mail to say the cheque is in the post. Have also chased up Parcel2go whose cheque still hasn't arrived. Ten e-bay auctions end this afternoon and are sitting at a whopping £5.29. Need miracles to happen if they're going to offset OHs £100 spend of yesterday. You'd swear the boy has a money tree in the garden. Am attempting to reduce the impact as much as possible on the household budget in the only place I can. The food shop. Am not going to be able to do that for much longer. Theres not much left in the freezer although the DDs are only here for another four days so I can eek it out that long and I'm only cooking for two which means OH can eat the random bits of gibble at the bottom of the freezer... seem to have lots of random bags of kidneys which come with each pig. I feel a steakless kidney pie on the cards. Wonder if I can stomach cooking them. May well end up feeding them the cats and OH quorn.

Inspired, or rather made to feel guilty, by the flylady list I did a heck of a lot of ironing last night whilst watching the first Harry Potter witht he DDs. DD1 thought it was ace. DD2 was rather disappointed, she expected it to be scarier. Shes firmly convinced that the book was much better and is already halfway through the next one. Washing machine is on already. Hoping to get to the bottom of the laundry basket and wash the remainder of the blankets covering the sofas today.

All that can wait though because after breakfast I'm going to be at one with my cauldron and will be transforming the foul smelling vinegary slop in the washing up bowl into some rather scrummy carrot and garlic chutney. Need to prune some more of the hedge whilst the weather is nice too.

This is clearly FlyLady code for "gingerly open the door to the cupboard where liveth the dustbin and awaiteth the cascade of detritus left by the previous players of the household game of avoideth the emptying of the dusbin by cramming just one more item on top and slamming the door v. quickly (clearly the inspiration for Buckaroo). At this stage one should don marigolds and have a giant bin bag at the ready as the amount of stuff crammed into the v. small recptacle will be most impressive. Placing a clothes peg on ones nose is advisable since the bottom most item will have transformed to its liquid state. It is advisable at this stage to rinse out the bin from afar using a hosepipe before filling with disinfectant and leaving for quite some time. Rince thrice more and return from whence it came."

From this description I can only assume that you've crept into my house in the dead of night for inspiration.

I am going to be emptying our bin this morning, Buckaroo doesn't even cover it.

At least you're only emptying the bin. I have to tackle the sink which some ingenious person has utilised as an overflow bin. Its full of eggshells and chocolate mousse pots and all manner of scummy things. Should be glad that DD2 cooked dinner but am always astounded at the amount of mess she manages to make and the concoctions served up. Yesterday we were treated to jacket spuds with butter and tuna mayo with a side helping of scrambled egg and cold baked beans followed up with rice pudding, jam and ice cream. Am just grateful that the child likes to cook. Now if only I could persuade her that washing up is fun too.

Show her a couple of episodes of Masterchef - they're always moaning that the contestants don't clean up after themselves.

Crivens. That would be scary. No doubt the child would want to experiment more as it is she wants to try making orange and onion marmalade.

Yesterday was a most productive day. Achieved far more than anticipated.
    • Made 12 jars of chutney
    • Washed up three times
    • Filled a wheelie bin with weeds (not as impressive as it sounds, some of them were 4 feet high)
    • Did three loads of laundry
    • Mopped the kitchen floor
    • Played Just Dance, Guitar Hero and Excerbeat which annoys me more each time DD2 bungs it on.
    • Concocted another dregs of the freezer dinner
    • Practiced crossing the road with DD1
    • Sold five of 11 items on E-bay for £25 profit. The less said about the eejot who left a mobile number and instructions for me to call him the better
    • Listed six more items on E-bay
    • Watched tv until far too late
    • and then got up every 90 minutes for the geriatric old dear to howl at the moon.
In and amongst we took OHs car to civilisation for fuel. Quite how he expected to get me from the service garage tomorrow with the red light blinking is a mystery. Anyhow since we had to go to town I figured we'd get some of the uniform shop out of the way and so we set off on our quest to find DD1 school trousers knowing this to be the hardest item on our list. T'was far far worse than I could have imagined. Firstly the UK clearly has an obesity problem. Trousers in the right age group were so big round the waist that the fell down, and adjusting them using the adjustable waist meant there was space for a watermelon at the rear. To add insult the same trousers were also far too short. Tried on everything in every store and eventually found something close but not quite and have had to order the next size up in the hopes that they're long enough without looking ridiculous. Was rather glad that M&S had free delivery on uniform which saves us treking back to the store or at least it would have done had not the trousers in question been the lower half of a boys suit with an extra long leg. Bah. Have to go back on Wednesday which at least means she can try them on there and then and refund them if they don't fit either. Did giggle quite a lot though at the discovery that DD1 has a 29" inside leg which is a smidgen longer than OHs and goes quite some way to explaining why nothing ever fits. Did attempt to persuade her to wear skirts but she wasn't convinced. Can't say I'd fancy the mile and a half walk to the bus stop in a skirt in winter either.

Plans for today involve filling the other wheelie bin with hedge trimmings, dropping my car in for a service, posting several e-bay parcels and a heck of a lot more tidying up and much cleaning. DD2 is hoping to go for a bike ride and DD1 wants to practise crossing the road again.

Thanks ezzie1uk! They do a slim fit but not with an extra long leg which means she needs an age 14 to get the legs something near long enough but those were humumgous round the middle. Life would be soooo much easier if she would wear skirts.

Will be back in the civilised world tomorrow to try the ones we've ordered from M&S which is just as well because the fuel tank on the big black beastie is precariously close to entering the danger zone. Thanks to me doing a spot more pootling about than antiipated. Had my car serviced yesterday at a whopping £140 of which £60 was engine oil which shouldn't have needed doing only the main dealer did the wrong type of service last year before I bought it. On the brightside all I need to do next year is a brake fluid change and posibly new front tyres thanks to an odd wear pattern which meant getting the tracking checked at two different places yet neither of them finding anything wrong.

Seem to have spent the last two days flitting from one thing to another with minutes to spare. Did get an awful lot done though ranging from the masacre of another 10m of hedge by the removal of many small trees, which has let tons of light into the garden, to the fitting of project Landies floor which took almost 200 rivets. My arms are killing and I have some huge blisters on my hand. Tis another huge job out of the way. Will still be many weeks before the rear tub repairs are completed though.

Have sold a surprising amount of stuff on Amazon over the past few days. Am now running out of stuff to package them in which is most definately a good thing. Bet the ladies at the village post office are sick of the sight of me.

Back to doing the absolute minimum of housework. There simply aren't enough hours in the day. Meanwhile grannys arrival gets closer and closer. Eeeek.
