Yet more financial faux pas and many other disasterous decisions

Sales on E-bay have been predominantly man tat. Not that any of the cash on collection buyers have been in contact to arrange collection which is rather annoying.
DD1 had a great time at camp. She fell asleep in the car on the way home, held it together long enough to eat half a dinner, degrot in the bath and collapse in bed where she remains almost 13 hours later. What little laundry there is is going round in the machine. She appears to have worn clean jodphurs everyday but neglected to change anything else. Eight pairs of scok are still neatly paired at the bottom of her bag along side a small heap of clean undercrackers. Will be having many words about personal hygiene when she awakes.
Have half a day off today in which to dry out wet tents and attempt to tidy up the house a wee bit. I would have got an awful lot more done had I not stayed in bed to read the last 200 or so pages of a book.
Submitted a couple of paragraphs and a very rough outline to the boy toy people to see if its along the right lines. I think they want it more family orientated in the hopes of persuading people its not just a hobby for geriatrics. Will wait to see what they think. Finding it v. hard to write as its based on a large and expensive lump of metal which I'm totally clueless about. I don't see why we need one so the likelihood of writing an article persuading others that they need one too is pushing my cabalitilites somewhat. Finding it even harder to keep my sense of humor in check. I suspect that comparing their best seller to Gullivers arrival in Lilliput is not quite what they had in mind.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Do you suppose it has anything to do with man buying man tat? They're all in the man tat club together and somewhere there is a man explaining to his OH just why he had to have another piece of tat and why she needs to tell him the PayPal password?

Think of the saving on electricity, you're at least three wash-loads down on your expectations.....mse at it's best!

I don't envy you that one. I had the same problem writing about the joys and expense of building your own model railway in the loft. Couldn't quite see it myself and research was limited as everything I googled seemed to be about the joys, no mention of the expense.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

If only I'd known. I could have helped what with my in depth knowledge of why every master bedroom needs a half built train set in it. As for the expense well thats because men have the memory of goldfish. This is precisely why when OH walks through the door with yet another church the demonic daughters and I howl with laughter. Even the scale thing had me befuddled. Had I realised that O gauge cows in an N gauge layout looked as ridiculous as they do ,well, I'd have encouraged the kids to buy mutant horses and pigs too. Then theres the whole problem of the grass fading in the sun so that 6 months after its been painstakingly glued in place it looks just like sand.... or cat litter.... it certainly confused the cat.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Whooooooo hooooooo its the weekend which means a non stop whirlwind of freetic activity in order to liberate the armchair from beneath the clean laundry pile, do something with the kitchen which still looks like a bomb has hit and figure out what else I can manage without straying too far from the telly box as I'm finding the olympics more addictive viewing than normal.
DD1s tent is now dry and packed away ready for DD2s pony camp at the end of the month. DD1 is still recovering from her camp.
Other than that and a brief trip to work I'm hoping for a very quiet yet extremely productive weekend.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Got a bit sidetracked. Already. Found some blank suncatchers and a whole lot of glass pens lurking in a drawer. Have spent a happy half hour colouring with the DDs. Will post some to the grandparents and bung a few on the window. Doubt the colour will last long but it was fun to do and its cleared more space occuying stuff out of the drawers. Washing up next and then lots and lots of telly box watching whilst I iron which is likely to take most of the morning.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Did all the ironing. But then did more laundry so have yet more ironing to do. Meh.
Returned the surplus stuff from project shed and promptly blew the refund on the stuff we forgot to buy. OH is planning to lay in the last cable ready to have it all tested and connected up tomorrow.
One E-bayer collected things yesterday. The other is being a twonk. Got an e-mail yesterday saying he would collect at 10:30 today. Not bothering to enquire whether this is convenient, which it isn't. Hes unable to come an hour earlier because hes making the 250 mile round trip on a moped and would have to get up early to do it. The item in question is a substantial metal object with a very sharp blade which won't dismantle and is far bigger than any normal rucksack. Why do I get more than my fair share of nutters? Unsurprisingly hes asked to rearange in order to collect in September.. If I wanted it lying around for another month I wouldn't have bothered to list it in the first place.
Stayed up late to watch the Olympics which were outstanding in their awesomeness. The DDs got more and more and more excited as the evening went on. Loving every single minute of it.
Plans for today involve riding lessons, a brief trip to lob a vacuum round holiday club and then several arduous hours of loft emptying and a few trips to the recycling centre as OH has finally decided to part with his college notes. Hoping to get rid of a few more things at the same time.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Emptied the loft. Ran in the cable and realised we were missing the join that connects armoured cable to ordinary cable. Went to get it in the rain. Was a bit concerned that the dips in the road were flooded but since the rain wasn't that heavy and the water was only 6" or so deep went anyway. Big mistake. Huge even. Half an hour later I couldn't see through the windscreen. Was stuck on the dual carriagewy in a long line of crawling cars in the outside lane attempting to stay out of the flooded inside lane. Those who had pulled into the layby had water over the bottom of their doors. The slip road leading home was a raging torrent with over a foot of water at the bottom. Scary to drive through. Took another half hour crawling to get home becoming more and more paranoid that I was going to go through water too deep either too fast or worse too slow and stall the engine. I was shaking by the time I walked in the door.
Made it home to find water coming in the front door and a few windows where the seals had aged and couldn't cope. The bottom of the garden was knee deep in water. Removed a couple of bricks from a retaining wall to drop the levels in order to stop the sheds flooding. The field next door was funnelling water through the bottom of next doors garden which is even lower than ours. Considering the water was quite shallow it was flowing rather rapidly and incredibly difficult to walk through.
Had to turn the car alarm off to stop the huge hailstones setting it off evey couple of minutes.
Had a visit from the local fire brigade who were visiting each property in the worst affected areas to see if anyone needed water pumping out. We were lucky. The farm at the end of the road weren't. They sit in a dip and had water several feet deep throughout the ground floor of their house. It happened so quickly that there wasn't anything they could do about it and very little that they could move upstairs. Livestock being far more important than possessions. Because it happened so quickly and drained almost as quickly most of the crops have survived and other than being frightened the animals seem to be ok. Its the sort of thing that can cripple a farm.
Have been up since 6am to increase drainage and clear debris just in case this afternoons forecast of further torrential deluges is right.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Morning
Not good about the rain and flooding, so glad you werent too badly hit.
Fab to see someone else excited about the Olympics, some of my friends not that keen so no one to get excited with. I did the same as you and arranged most of my weekend tasks around the tv, so a grand tidy up of the front room whilst watching the sailing and the tennisGo Team GB :j
