Another thing that annoys me about HSBC, when I transfer large sums, they block it then ring me up. They say "someones trying to transfer money from your account" Im like YEAH ITS BLUDDY ME! THen they offer me a great deal on a loan!Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

It is undoubtedly a piece of cr*p. If you use Egg Money Manager you have to go through the rigmarole twice to get access to your accounts. It may increase security, but is also making it more difficult for people to access their money, maybe that's the intention ? It's been mentioned several times that it should should only be for making transactions - HSBC or anybody else don't seem to have an answer for this. Presumably can't be bothered to alter their online banking. A false economy given the amount of customers its hacking off and losing as a result.0

Smile (Online version of the Cooperative) have the little calculator thing, but you only need it when transferring money out of your account. It was annoying when it first came out, as you then needed it to pay your smile credit card from your smile current account, but they appear to have listened to their customers and now only require it for higher risk transactions, ie transfers and standing order amendments, though you do need it no matter how many times you have transferred to that account before.import this0

Ok - so I got my key but thought I was stuck because as I started to log in - it was telling me my Activation Number would be in my pack. I looked and there was nothing obvious in there - so I was going to complain to them about it... but then thought I'd see how far i could get and screen shots indicated that it was my Personal log in number!
It prompted me for my TELEPHONE security number but I have never used telephone banking - so I tried with my online banking security number - and that worked!
Then I got a pink and red message saying "you are already registered" and it put me back to the beginning to log in properly!
It was a bit long-winded... and I can't say that the instructions were that great really...
But... I'm in!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

I needed to start bank accounts for my minor children so we opened 3 new HSBC accounts (one joint) I now have 4 card keys to use! I never gave up my Nat West account and I will probably revert to NW as my main account (which is a joy to use in comparison with HSBC). Complaining to HSBC does nothing so they can loose my money. (Take note NW rates are generally better anyway).
In addition the ease of the Egg Money Manager has been compromised and people should really investigate this brilliant bit of software, I use it to monitor about 20 accounts including mortgage, CC and savings accounts with one log in for the whole family (including my elderly mum) - it took about a minute to load; much longer now that I have to fumble with 4 card keys!
At the end of the day it does not suit me and many others and the balance between the bank's security and the customer's ease has been upset.
Could one have multiple card keys?0 -
I have one and have been wondering how it is powered? If it has a battery, I wonder how long it will last before it dies and I need to ask for a new one - and does that mean no internet banking until a new one comes through? It doesn't appear to be solar powered?0

As has been posted elsewhere First Direct is planning to implement "something similar" within the next 12 months.baby_frogmella wrote: »To all those First Direct customers who think they'll never have to use a secure key/card reader...think again! I recently closed my HSBC current account due to the secure key requirement and called up First Direct to ask them if they had any plans to introduce the secure key. First their agent said they didn't have any plans, i asked him "are you 100% sure?" he kept me on hold for 10 mins and then said " sorry, we do intend to introduce something similar within the next 12 months"0

i've had it for a month, lost it a fair few times but now have it tied to my laptop as i've given up otherwise as i'll lose it. It's a pain, HSBC interest rates are rubbish but they do have ok customer service plus you can actually e-mail with problems (compared to halifax where you always have to be on the phone for a while). think i'll stick with them for a bit:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Seems good to me.....don't have a problem with it.
As for you whingers having to carry it to work to do your banking, just get on with what you are paid to do and do your banking when you get home.0 -
I think the SecureKey is safer than the previous authentication system but I use online banking a lot less now. I'm guessing I'm with the majority on this (which is possibly a hidden benefit to HSBC?).
I've noticed that HSBC customer service has gradually been deteriorating over the last couple of years. I'm more concerned about this than the introduction of the SecureKey.0
