I think she needs to start selling stuff - cut down to just enough clothes not to be arrested for indecency, and something for job interviews and they same for all other possessions. The more she can pay off Wonga the less likely they will be to do a proper investigation.

It was application fraud. For a single incident of this value the sentencing guidelines will suggest either community service or probation, not imprisonment. Criminal Prosecution is unlikely but placing a fraud mark on her credit record would be, as would be seeking a CCJ against her.

One possible approach is to visit Lenders Compared and get a loan there for say 50 weeks, paying it off with overpayments as rapidly as practical. That gets the fraudulent Wonga loan out of the picture and reduces that risk. Lenders Compared is the independent site set up as a result of the Office of Fair Trading investigation into the doorstep lending industry. Rates are much higher than normal mainstream loans but much cheaper than payday loans so this would improve her position compared to continuing with Wonga. Many of the doorstep lenders will accept missed payments from time to time without costly additional charges as well.

It'll cost money but she should be able to get out of this.

Bit of an over exaggeration there i think. Besides this is the year 2011, think about technology, film her in the shower and sell it on the internet and you could make a couple of pounds.
