Hi,
Ive been made redundant this morning... came back after three days annual leave... boss said that it was because my work had been lacking in the last month - I knwo this is illegal redundancy and he should have given me a warning, but he put the role was no longer needed in writing...
Not sure wha to do next, cant tell my OH until he gets home from work and I know he will be really stressed out about it, we're broke as it is....
What do I do?!?! I feel like my life has been royally SCREWED

Are you being made redundant or dismissed on capability grounds? How long have you worked there? Have you had anything in writing?0 -
Just over a year... email I got after I left this morning (told me I didnt have to work my notice) was this...
Hi XXX,
Further to our conversation today, we have decided as business that the role of Sales Operations Manager will no longer be required.
As per your contract, you have 1 weeks’ notice and we will also provide two weeks redundancy pay for you. XXX will pay this direct into your account and send your P45
Thanks for all your hard work over the past year and best of luck in the future. Hopefully we can stay in touch.
XXX
P.S We will provide a glowing reference for you.
This isnt what he said this morning!!!0 -

so you have been there over a year and your notice is ONLY 1 week? How so? Most are a month and no they DO NOT have to pay you ANY redundancy pay so I think you are being sacked!0 -
With less than two years service you are not entitled to a redundancy payment, so the two weeks pay is money they do not need to give you.
You may however have an unfair dismissal claim, whether or not you accept the two weeks pay. They certainly haven't followed a fair procedure, and the letter makes no reference to your work being 'lacking' or any other capability issues.0 -
Apart from the complete moron who told me to move on (ugh...its been an hour)... thanks for the advice.
I know that I am being gracefully sacked... But what do I do now?! I have NEVER been unemployed.0 -

Take a deep breath. Relax over the weekend. Think about whether you want to take an unfair dismissal claim. If you do you must mitigate your loss which means starting applying for jobs and keeping detailed records of all your job-seeeking efforts.
Before you submit a claim (you have three months less one day to do so) you might wish to consider asking them for an agreed reference? They may not be so keen to be glowing if they are facing an unfair dismissal claim!
What sort of job did you have by the way?0
