    1. Santander home page
    2. RH side: Quick links->Interest Rates
    3. Savings link
    4. Click link underneath 'Savings interest rates for accounts no longer available to customers': Click here to view interest rates for accounts no longer available to customers.

Same PDF as shown in Post 3 of this thread. eSaver issues are on page 6.

It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.

They are different esavers, legacy Alliance and Leicester accounts.

The document was effective from July 5th, I think the esaver 3 closed to new applicants after this date which is why it's not shown.

Come on Santander, get it updated!!

should it not be illegal to offer savings products and then have no way of finding the interest rates on your website? :(

That's a good point. Does anyone know what the legal requirements are for displaying interest rates on bank accounts?

  • I requested the current interest rate for my eSaver (Issue 3) and received a standard response "Go to the internet site and click on interest rates" etc. When I responded that the rate was not shown there, I received the same reply "Go to the internet site", blah blah.

After this response, I asked them to actually read my request or forward to their Complaints Dept. This elicited the following response "I am sorry you were unable to find this information online. This account has only recently been removed from sale and has not yet been updated on the 'offsale accounts' section of the website.

Within the first 12 months of opening you will receive 2.50% and after that 0.1%.

I telephoned them today to be assured that the rate is 3.00% !!

Don't know whether to believe them or not.

This is pathetic - how long does it take and how many personnel to update a pdf with a few extra lines and then replace it online? I would suggest 2 people in 2 departments could do it in 10 mins each, and I could do both jobs in less time than that.

Why have a stupid pdf in the first place? Much easier to have a web page with direct link which you could edit in a couple of seconds...

I used 08003899875 to enquire about e saver issue3 interest rate after wasting time on their website closed accounts pdf where it cannot be found. It was 3% AER when account opened in April 2011 but was told it was now 2.9% and they didn`t know when it had changed from 3%! They used to have an interest rate finding option where you put in your account number which was better than trawling through pages of old accounts pdf but unfortunately this has been discontinued.Getting interest paid monthly would enable you to keep a check but this has a slightly lower AER and why should one have to do this to check interest rates. Its time for the government to make it compulsory for banks and building societies to notify savers of any change in interest rates and also to put a stop to so many different accounts being started for new customers creating in time so many old accounts closed to new customers. The santander pdf amounts to 13 pages of interest rates for old accounts!

If monthly, what day of the month is it credited?

Monthly interest is started one month after you opened the account then paid on that same date each month. For example if you had opened the account on say the 6th June interest will be paid on the 6th of each month.
