  • Loads of good advice on the food front. Batch cooking, planning what you eat in advance (cutting food wastage etc) and other threads on a similar topic. My advice is regarding meals. You say in your post that you don't eat breakfast. If you really want to lose weight then you really need to try as breakfast kickstarts your metabolism for the day, it will help you maintain a steady blood sugar (which is linked to the body storing fat and not entering starvation mode) and you'll find your less hungry at lunch. Asda's basic museli is pretty good as is porridge for the winter. Alternatively a smooth of banana, basic fruit juice, few basic porridge oats and some frozen berries would also be good.

    Good Luck

Thanks everyone, I plan to start trying this as soon as I rid my freezer of the junk in there (I buy food monthly so have quite a bit).

Will try eating breakfast but I tend to feel quite sick if I eat early.

    Drea,
Instead of buying food monthly, what I do is whenever I go into the garage/Spar or the local CoOp is have a quick scan of the aisles to see what's reduced.
The other week I got 2 packs of checken strips for £1.50 each instead of £3 each & a big Steak & Ale pie for £3.25.This I cooked & cut into fourmfreezing three of the portions. The chicken strips I broke down into single portions & froze too. (gf's a veggie!)

No need to clear the freezer. Start the healthier eating now - that way, if you fancy the occasional junkfood meal, there will be options in the freezer and you can get through the junk slowly.

If you need to shop monthly, there's a lot you can do with frozen veg, dried and canned veg and pulses, etc. Assuming you've got a corner shop, presumably it's easy to top up with bits of fruit, eggs, etc. in between the monthly shop. You could get more fresh food if you shop weekly - but you may be happy with frozen and otherwise preferred.

Eat some breakfast - even if it's just a couple of handfuls of walnuts or a banana. You'll get used to it and stop feeling sick.

There are no bigger supermarkets near me so I do a monthly shop online and then top up at the shops near me. I do have a Tesco and Co-op within 5 minutes but they are just the small ones, although one up the road isn't too bad for most things you need.

To be honest, I really need paid again before I can start doing this properly, that budget is pretty tight ;) but will try a few things before then. On the plus side today I had a salad for dinner and have some more for lunch the next two days. Not very creative but certainly healthy :D and for pudding I had raw rhubarb dipped in sugar.... umm part of it is healthy :rotfl: a friend at work gave me a whole load of rhubarb, will have to look into how to do something with it.

I do live just off a street with plenty of independent shops, there are chinese supermarkets etc and I could probably find a nice butcher and fruit/veg shop if I opened my eyes :rotfl:

Chinese supermarkets can often be pretty good for cheap fruit, veg, meat, fish etc. themselves - and excellent for basics like rice, spices and beans. If you're skint, fair enough - you need to eat something! - though rather than buying take aways if tempted, why not use the money to buy something different from a local shop instead...

    Drea,
    Here's a cheaper alternative to a KFC.
A bag of these from Sainsburys (or Tesco ect) for around £3.49)

And a pack of this from the chinese supermarket (around £1)

RESULT! Coat the chicken in the mixed batter & deep fry.The chicken portions will last me a couple of months & you get leg, thighs & breasts in it.

ooooooor mix a little flour, some paprika, salt and pepper and any other herbs and spices you fancy and do your own coating - not full of msg and cheaper in the long run

ditto chilli sauce - using a tin of toms and your own seasoning will be cheaper and healthier
