If you buy a 20 kg sack of spuds from a farmshop they work out at 25p a kilo (£5 a sack) which brings the cost of the dish down to £1.98
They last for ages in a cold garage too.

had this for tea last night and it went down a storm! i layered potatoes with some courgettes that were a bit past it, onions, a couple of chopped bacon slices and jar of almost at its date pasta bake (creamy tomato). That with some herbs and worcs sauce, delicious!
Both me and my oh have had it for dinner today at work too.
Thanks OP!!

am making lentil spoup today"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
spaghetti, break into thumb length pieces and boil until almost cooked, then cool under running cold water. meanwhile sautee some garlic (quite a bit!) in a pan with a good glug of olive oil, add some sliced greens and a handful of frozen peas. add pasta and toss until warmed through and finished cooking. season to taste with salt and fresh pepper, and a twist of lemon juice. Cheap and delish! if you are splurging, add some grated parmesan (though you can get some in sainsbury's ready grated for £1 a packet and it is the best ready grated I have found and the cheapest - last a good few meals too and we use it heavy handed):heart2::heart2:On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur :heart2::heart2:we're debt freeeeeeeeeeeee....FREEEEDOM!!! :j:T0

Hello
My trousers are getting tighter and tighter and I really want to start eating better food. But I'm on a really tight budget, I have a low wage and just myself to feed.
I know everyone says it is much cheaper and healthier to cook from scratch but I honestly don't see it. I guess it might be cheaper for certain things but buying Tesco Value steak pie costs me 50p and add some chips and that's a meal. Is there a way to really do it cheaply? I want to eat healthy food, I enjoy it more and hopefully it would make a difference to size of my bum but I just don't know how people do it without it costing them a fortune.
Also, what do people do when they just want something easy and can't be bothered cooking for ages once home from work? The days when normally I would order take away or stick a pizza in the oven.
I spend around £40-£50 a month on dinners. I buy my lunches at the start of each week usually making sandwiches or taking left over dinner into work which costs around £7 a week. During the weekend I don't eat lunch and I never eat breakfast. Is it possible to do this on a budget?Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0
